13 Reasons Why?

Anyone watching this on Netflix? I'm finding the story compelling enough to keep watching, though only through 4 episodes at this point.

I'm also seeing some blotchy orange flesh tone spots, haven't seen anything like that from Netflix, normally a little higher quality. Also liking the color grade change between past and present, makes a good subtle visual clue that something just changed.

Shot on VariCam. The flashbacks also utilized anamorphic lenses and then the frame was then cropped to retain the aspect ratio, all to give a different look to those sequences.

I thought varicam avoided the blotchy orange, did they put it in during the grade?

Don't know why you're seeing "blotchy orange". I certainly didn't. I haven't viewed it yet as Netflix transmission so will have to give that a check. If there's one thing everyone laud's VariCam for, it's the lovely colors & skin tones.

Netflix might be the issue, Blotchy skin and purple lips on the present, the warmer past scenes look decent and anything shot outdoors looks better. Could this be a problem with 4k masters coming down to the (probably) 720 I'm getting? I haven't seen this same issue with really anything else I've watched on this same tablet, generally everything looks decent. I'll have to install the app on my better laptop and see what it looks like, maybe what netflix is sending is better than my tablet can handle, and is therefore making it look bad, or the client updated and wrecked things (seen that before).

Technical issues aside, I am enjoying the rather somber story.

That show is excellent, but, damn, it gets DARK towards the end. Seriously bleak stuff going on there.

Loved the cinematography, as well as the acting, directing, etc. Top notch storytelling, but don't watch it if you're depressed...

Giving up for the night, little past half way.

I did pull up another show to check my system, rewatched a few minutes on "The Motorbike Show" Lots of crap action cam stuff, but the good cameras looked like normal fleshtones with normal color lips, so I don't think it is my tablet. It was one of the last things I watched so fresh in my mind, but certainly nothing higher than FHD original.

Tried watching this, but really couldn't get into the subject matter, which almost seemed to be glorifying teen suicide (becoming the center of attention of high school through suicide, suicide as an act of revenge, etc). It really irked me the wrong way.

There are a lot of shows on Netflix that are shot on VariCam. As one of only three camera systems approved by Netflix for the 4K origination it demands of its original productions, the VariCams are very popular over there. So chances are if you're watching a Netflix show then you're watching VariCam footage. Do you see "orange splotches" in other shows, such as Master of None?

The purple lips could be attributed to what they are lighting with and how they are grading. I haven't watched this particular show. But I used to run across it(see it) a lot from guys that lit with daylight flo's and HMI's indoors. Although we're talking about different cameras here, I haven't really experienced it with my F55, but I saw it happening on guys I knew were shooting on F5's and F55's and lighting with HMI and or flo's. I try to stick to tungsten whenever practical/possible, especially on "mission critical" work, like sit-downs where we are shooting faces fairly close-up.

I skimmed through a little bit of S2E5 Master of None... No blotchies, no purple lips. I did notice a few scenes where the gain was pretty high, lots of noise running around in the background. Also noticed the over all exposure was a bit darker, like they were protecting 100 percent white from the analog days. Flesh tones were all a little darker, but overall looked good. Not my kind of show though. So back to 13 Reasons Why.
