12 hours on a new DVX

I bought an new DVX 100 BE. Yesterday i got my baby.
Scrolling through the menu I recognized that there are already 12 hours on the hourmeter.

is that normal?

I can't imagine that's normal. Are you sure the DVX is new? Where did you buy it? Have you tried resetting the camera to see what happens to the hour meter?

at least i thoght that it was new. I'm from Germany and bought the cam at a big, german online-dealer for broadcast technology. www.teltec.de

i called them and they told my everything up to 24 hours on the hourmeter is quite normal. they would testrun the cams up to 24 hours before selling and delivering them.

have not resetted the cam yet.
 
Mystery solved! I don't think resetting the camera will reset the hour meter if it has, in fact, been test run for 12 hours. As long as everything works fine and you're happy with it, I wouldn't worry about it.

I find that very strange that they "test" it out beforehand. I'd inquiry a little more as to they're testing methods or WHY they actually do it. When I purchased by DVX100b brand new from an authorized dealer back in '04 or '05, there was 0 hours on the heads. Maybe it's the company's policy, but I'd still give them another call and confirm that it is brand new.

Anyway, if you're happy with it - great! No doubt that the DVX is a great camera...just when purchasing something, know what you're getting for your money.

its prob correct. if theres a tape in teh camera and the camera is on, the clock is ticking, even if its not recording becuase the heads are engaged... and if you are like me when i first got my dvx, i spent a ton of time that first day in my room messing around with scene settings, wb, and other stuff to get used to using the camera. so my advice... if yur gonna be using your camera to just tool around with in your room to practice and your not recording anything, remove the tape or your hour meter will go up
 
Your saying the company does "test runs" that are 12 hours recording time long? That probably means it's been used more then 12 hours, only 12 hours are on the heads. That my friend is not "brand new". Anyways, maybe you got a good deal on it, don't mind me butting in.
