10mm Lens recommendations?

A good 10mm, that would be the Arri 10mm Ultra Prime T2.1.
If your not stuck on a 10mm prime, the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 is a great lens on the AF100.

All the Best!

Or the Lumix 7-14, zoomed to 10mm. Not very fast at f/4, but super-ultra-wide and capable of autofocus and auto-iris if you ever need those.

+1 for Tokina 11-16. We will be purchasing one for our AF100 very soon. Just be sure to go Nikon for mechanical aperture control (or Canon/Birger)

Does anyone have screen grabs from the Tokina 11-16 or Lumix 7-14 shot on the af100? I have a snowboard shoot this coming December which will require very wide angle shots (getting low under handrail). Some of the shoots will be at night with a generator, others will be at day, but nonetheless - need to make it look 'big' without massive barrel distortion. Wondering if the 11-16, with the crop, will be wide enough (since I have one).
Thanks.

The 7-14 will have no barrel distortion whatsoever. Don't know about the Tokina, I don't have one of those. But I can say the 7mm on the 7-14 will be massively wider than 11mm would be, of course.

If you are wanting manual control of the Tokina 11-16mm and you have the means, I would suggest the Duclos 11-16mm PL mount version.
Unfortunately they had a little setback with orders as someone broke in to their shop and lifted all of the completed lenses they had in stock.

I second the recommendation for the 7-14mm. It's a superb lens.

Just used the 7-14 for the first time yesterday shooting shots in a warehouse, and many on an 8 foot jib. EPIC lens. I was skeptical, but it reignited a creative spark in me. It's just SO FREAKING wide. I did some "fake" steadicam cam shots (handheld) following someone through a hallway and it was VERY smooth because it's so wide. F4 can seem slow nowadays, but it's a very worthwhile addition for any AF100 owner in my opinion.

Yep. It's my favorite lens. It just makes you want to shoot differently, because you can. It's hyper-ultra wide, and rectilinear.

another +1 for the tokina. It is super sharp, plus the extra stop is nice, and if you get the nikon version you can use it on almost anything (it will even cover FF35 @15mm if you want to throw it on your 5D). Probably my favorite ultra-wide. Duclos re-houses it into a cine lens for a reason... it is THAT good.

I've done a heap of snowboard stuff over the years on DVX/HVX rigs and can't wait to try the AF102 with this lens. I own and love the 7-14 Lumix. This is a really quick Razor scooter shoot I did a month or so ago.
Most is I think around the 10mm area, and it might give you an idea how it would go with your snowboard rail shoot.

Shane, aside from the lens (which worked well for this), you managed to get a wonderful balance between the exposure on the subject and the lovely sky and clouds in the background. Any comments on camera settings and grading that would be useful to know for these kinds of conditions?

The Tokina 11-16 is my favorite lens I own. You wont regret it.

I'm sooo torn between these two lenses... leaning towards the Tokina because it's faster (but then I lean towards the Lumix cuz it's wider...) sigh...

Was there a thread directly comparing the two?

Awesome example. That lens looks really clean without the distortion! Would be very interested in seeing the 7mm end. You've shot snowboarding so I imagine you can expect some of the shots I want to get (board flying by lens, rider filling up whole screen). The 2.8 on the Tokina will help with the night shots for sure, but 7-14 may be the jam. Need to have it looking good also because it will be broadcast - in HD I imagine.

ps - I used to live near Byron Bay when I went to school for a while. I'll be cruising through those parts again this October after a brief hunt in Darwin. Will be looking at more of your footage!
