1080p to 720p downconvert or native 720p?

I shoot a lot of web content that is almost always output at 720p, however I mostly shoot in 1080p because I've always felt that to down convert from 1080(24p) yields a better picture than a native 720p video...I edit on FCP so I'm transcoding to ProRes...to shoot 720 would give me smaller file sizes in editing so do I sacrifice at all in shooting 720p?

You would be sacrificing some color resolution information, and maybe a little detail. Other than that, no, not really, and by the time it gets posted on the web I doubt anyone will see any difference at all.

Of course, the most conclusive thing to do would be to just try it and see what you prefer and if the native 720 looks fine to you through your entire post process.
