1080p for 720p projects?

Does it make any sense to shoot 1080p 24p for projects they will ultimately be in 720p?

I ask this because I would use 720p 60p for any slowmo and speed changing shots. If i do that, does it make any sense to shoot any regular 24p stuff at the higher resolution? I know theoretically it'll give more flexability in post, but are there any drawbacks?

Before we see any pictures its gonna be hard to tell.

But if your delevering format will be 720. You could shoot 720 all thee way.

1080 could be usefull at greenscreen work.

Drawbacks att shooting 1080p = it take more space.

still 50% better than NTSC 480. it will be a while before many TV sets support 1080 HD. less space as movie swede says esp for those not using P2 and looking at Firestore type device. 720/24p sounds great to me!!

720p isn't 50% better than NTSC, it's three times as many pixels as NTSC!

If you know you're making a 720p product, I can't see why you'd bother shooting in 1080p. 720p will take up half the data space, it'll be quicker to render, etc... what advantage would you be going for by shooting 1080?
