So while i had Tom's Mac Tower w/ the dual link hooked up figured why not test out the over crank feature in 60p @ 1080p resolution.

here you go.

This footage is so demanding that is putting my office Macpro 2x 3GHZ dual core 8GB struggling with playback!

hi timur,
a more general question: what matrix settings do you use?
and could you do a test Slog vs cine4 or even standard x4.5 ?
thanx!
keep up the great work!

So wait if you have the SLog Upgrade you can get 1080p overcrank 60p? what did you capture on?

He was capturing via a dual link HD-SDI connection to a blackmagic decklink card in a mac tower, if I recall correctly.

great vid!

you can record 1080 60P without buying slog its been in the camera since Day 1.... :)

Well then i'm dumb, could you please let me know what settings the cam needs to be on? or where there at? Or if there is a whitepaper or site somewhere detailing this? I would really be happy. I have only ever used the SQ button on the F3 and when i do it goes into 720 mode, I have looked in the manuel but i can't seem to find anything on it either. As my wife has shown me countless times i could be staring something right in the face and still not find what i'm looking for :)

You activate 1080 59.94i and the dual link should be spitting out 422 1080p 60p. you may need to select 1.5g 422 in the video setup menue, the third or fourth one from the top in the menus.

So forgive me but this doesn't seem like overcraking then. wouldn't overcranking be playing back in slower motion. such as recording 30fps and overcranking to 60 effectively slowing down by half. if you record the dual SDI feed aren't you just recording a 60 frames a second video, no slowing?

You record in 60p then bring it into your project and depending on your NLE, mark or "interpret" it as a 30p or 24p clip. It then plays back all frames, but at a slower fps. Giving you the slow motion.

Any secret way it can shoot 22 frames... for just a little speeded up action for lets say actors who are not the best stunt doubles.. and there are a few I know who can pull it off.. making it look like they're fighting...
: )

yup, the beloved S&Q feature that has been in the EX line forever lets you shoot anywhere from 1-60fps.

Timur hi,

I was wandering what kind of external recorder did you use for the purpose of this test and what codec-format did you record it?...yesterday we were testing the dual link from sony f3 to the cinedeck extreme and we could only get 1080 60p in cineform...when we tried to record the 1080 60p in pro res we couldn't do it...what's the catch? and what was your experience, what codec and what recorder was used? thanks for the input

best regards

Hi,

you mean you used only 1 sdi output? used A port with enabled dual link output set in the menu? and then captured to mac tower with something like kona 3 card? would this be right?
