1080i and 24p - Where's the setting?

HI there,

I have a HPX171E (PAL) and want to shoot a music video in the highest resolution possible, that is 1080i for this model.

I also want to have a "film look", so I want to shoot at 24 frames per second.

Problem is, when I select the CINE D scene in 1080i, the camera doesn't switch to 24p like when I am in 720p/25pn.

All the literature, though, says it can shoot in 1080i and 24p.

Can anyone share his thoughts about this issue I have?

Thanks.

There's no 24p on a PAL HVX -- it has 50i, 50p (only in 720), and 25p.

The 24p in 25pN mode is one of the variable frame rates and will play back faster than real time.

1080i/25p will work fine for you, and appear extremely similar to 24p.

Make sure you ask the band what format they want this in - if they specifically asked for 24p there could be a good reason for it. ie. online, networks, distribution, god only knows.. One advantage of 24p over 25p even though they look the same is the file size will be slightly smaller but that's not a big deal.

In a jam you can convert frame rates later, but it will involve stretching the audio by 4% to match the new time length of the project when you drop your 25p finished edit to a 24p timeline.. ie. your 3:30 minute song now becomes 3:38. You can use protools or adobe audition to stretch the audio file by 4% and the pitch will not change. ;)
