1080i 24pa footage has bad artifacts, why?

So, I've been shooting 720p24pn or 30pn since I've gotten my camera. Tonight I shot something on the greenscreen in 1080i24pa, and it's completely crisp in the "log and transfer" window in FCP, but everytime I que it into my sequence, the footage has really bad artifacts. I tried changing settings, but I re import it and it still has artifacts like the fields are rendered backwards. I know this has something to do with FCP being used to Progressive scan, and now I'm importing interlaced footage but I cant figure out how to change it. Any help?

What are your settings both in camera and on FCP. What version do you have etc.? Does the footage look interlaced? could you post either a still or a link to a video clip?

it's FCP 6, the camera im not sure what more you want other than Cine D, 1080i 24pa, I'll post a screen grab real quick.

This is once it's been added to my sequence. But like I said, when it's in my "log and transfer" window it plays completely crisp. So the problem is somewhere transferring it within FCP.

and another thin, that black line along the top. That's something within FCP too, that's no the top of my psyche or anything.

What are the sequence settings you are using? Have you removed the pull-down from the 24pA footage?

sequence settings are 1080i 60i DVCPRO HD, I tried both upper and lower for field dominance. In system preferences I changed the pulldown to 2:3:3:2 since I filmed it 24 pa. And nothing fixed it, I'm not sure what else there is.

If your sequence is 1080i 60i it is certainly interlaced.

24PA means 24 progressive with advanced pulldown. You have extra frames that are actually interlaced because they are made of fields from the real recorded frames.

You need to remove the advanced pulldown and you need a 24P sequence in FCP.

Changing the pulldown settings in FCP is for the video output when you use 24P footage.

I was wondering about this, just got my HVX 200a. So we are supposed to use cinema tools on the the 1080i PA footage before we bring into FCP or after we converted it to a quicktime for editing?

I'd do it directly in Final Cut after the Quicktime transition.

Don't forget to back up all that before using the Remove Pulldown options, it replaces your original clips. Not sure about that though...

You can batch rev pulldown in Cinema Tools too, after the Quicktime transition in FCP, before editing.

Always remove any pulldown before editing!

that's what it was. I changed the timeline settings to 24 fps even though the codec is DVCPRO HD 1080i 60i. Thanks!!
