1080i/24P or 24PA - that is the question ...

Hey everybody,
I'm new posting on this forum, but I've been following it for a while, so this issue may have already come up. I am about to start shooting a feature using a Sony F900 shooting 1920x1080 24p. I am planning to use the HVX as a "b-camera" and want to match the F900 format as closely as possible. I know that the HVX records as 59.97i with a 3:2 pulldown and that FCP can remove the pulldown to achieve true 1080/24p. My question is which of 24P or 24PA is the right choice - all footage to be edited in Avid.

Thanks for any guidance!:dankk2:

I don't know what the F900 does, but I know that with the HVX, the difference is the pulldown on 24pA is: 2:3:3:2. In general, it's better to use that with the HVX, but I don't know about combining footy with the F900.

Interesting article about using HVX as B-cam to F900. You might want to ask the Avid question in the Avid forum, if no one responds quickly. If you can get it into the Avid, I would shoot 1080pA24. Hope you get some nice matching footage. :)
