1080 vs transcoded 720p?

Hello,

As a user of CS4, my two options are:

1. Shoot the more compressed 1080p and edit natively.

2. Shoot the less compressed 720p and then transcode it to DVCPRO HD.

Has anyone compared 1080p footage vs. transcoded 720p? Which way would you go and why?

i have compared 1080p to 720p with HMC

1080p is sharper than 720p, even when rendered out at 720p

when you say transcoding, are you referring to the dvchd pro transcoder?

if so, transcoding with Dvchd pro reduces your 1280x720 footage to 960x720. you will lose many horizontal lines of resolution. i stay clear of that transcoder like the plague
