1080 vs 720, 60p vs. 30p, PH vs.HA, HG

I'm trying to find the recording format on the AG-HMC150 that is uses the least resources on my computer. I have a quad core processor and 500 mb gaming video card and yet when I am editing in Pinnacle 12, there is incredible lag time/slowness when editing clips. This is especially problematic when I shot 720/60p. And when I shot 720/30p, my software still said it was 60p. It seems like 1080/60i moved a little quicker in Pinnacle than other modes. And would shooting HA or HG use less resources on my computer?

I know this could be an issue with Pinnacle but there also seemed to be quite a but of lag using Neo 2, also. Should I switch to Adobe Premier? Cost is an issue. Possible Premier AElements would work better?

I'm shooting stuff mainly for the web so hi-res isn't necessary most days.

Any help from those much wiser than me on this would be greatly appreciated!

For the Web shoot 720p24 or 720p30. Try lower bitrates like 17 or even 13. On my machine 13 Mbit/s is played back fine, while 17 Mbit/s stutters.

Convert your footage to Canopus HQ at the frame rate and frame size you shot in. The resulting file will be larger but it will edit perfectly fine without any quality loss.

You can't choose a lower bitrate and 720p at the same time. 720p is only availabe in PH mode.

If you have a multicore computer, you want PH mode, it's optimized to be decoded faster on a multiprocessor system (uses "multi-slice" mode). 720/24 should be the fastest to decode and play back in realtime.

Conversion to CanopusHQ isn't necessarily easily done; the Canopus converter requires that EDIUS be installed.

billywardy, when you got your HMC150, did you get the EDIUS Neo2 software? It's a promotional giveaway; if you got it, I'd highly recommend moving over to Neo2 instead of using Pinnacle 12.
