1080/30p to Blu-ray via Encore CS4

I will be changing my current choice of 720/60p for my weddings to 1080p.

(I would much prefer to stay at 720/60p but my competition is usinf the 'Full HD' edge in their advertising and clients are now asking for it.)

Delivery is on DVD and Blu-ray. My workflow is dynamic link the timeline to Encore and then select either DVD or Blu-ray formats for the authoring.

My preference for 1080p is 30p over 24p for the extra frames. However, I am concerned about the authoring in Encore as 30p isnt a Blu-ray format. I can though select 1920x1080p, 29.97, no fields. Is this going to work? Am I going to have issues. Am I better off just shooting 24p?

Thanks

720p 60p is "full HD" and is good enough for ABC, Fox and ESPN. Just tell the grooms it is the same format used by ESPN and tell the brides Desperate housewives uses the format as well.

You cannot put 30p on a Blu-ray. The only way to do it is to encode your 30p video as 60i and author. It will still have a 30p look but when it is played back it will play one half of the frame at a time. You may not really notice the difference but it isn't as good.

Be prepared however that more of your clients are going to notice the lower framerate of 30p long before they will be able to tell the video is slightly lower resolution.

Plus 1080p on the HMC-150 isn't all that much more detailed then 720p for the average person to really take notice. It is more detailed but I highly doubt any of your clients are going to all of a sudden take notice at the difference.

How about offering them a demo disk with all your available formats on separate titles? And then let them choose which "look" they like. Just a thought.
