I've heard a lot of different information about the PAL version oh the HVX200. Does someone KNOW (not have heard or believe or whatever) if it will have 1080 25p (not 25i)?

Why is that? The NTSC version have 1080 30p? Why the Pal version is limited to 1080 25i?
It is not limited, it is Pal 50i or 25p. Just because the number 25 is less than 30 it doesn't mean any limitation, it is a different tv-standard.

Ok, Serge! We know your POV (I follow your arguments before :engel017: ) about 25p...

BUT what do you think (all of you, also, HVX future european users & - why not? - american users too) about €10,000/$12,000 + VAT (in Portugal, we have 21% plus) HVX200 8GB P2 cards package

[for PAL believers, in case of any doubt, please see:

[only :embarasse for Serge (also):

versus $5,499/€4,577 (10-22-2005) HVX unit + $2,000/€1665 (same date too) Firestore? And more possibilities for the slow motion effect in 720p (60 to 24p vs 50 to 25p)?

key (for american users):
VAT = value added tax (european union members tax)

I've misread Robert Niemann's answer. So it will have 1080 25p. That is what i am looking for. I hope that is coming from a good source (Jan crittenden) because i've read many times that the pal version will not have a progressive version of 1080.

Jan has said it, and Gabriel Costache of Panasonic New Zealand (a PAL territory) confirmed it as well. Absolutely, unquestionably, 1080/25p.

Ok,

The only thing that bothers me with regards to variable frame rates, is that the PAL version will suffer. You guys always have more.
So, our concerns as PAL users is why don't they make a universal camera? This problem only exists because of the introduction of SD to the camera. If the camera was HD only, then we wouldn't have this problem. It would be a single camera just like the Varicam.
But hey, it is already a good thing they have included SD in the camera as well. But it would be cool to have a universal camera, that supported both formats.
I don't really know the engineering behind it, but I don't think it is hard to do it. The only drawback would be the price. Do you guys agree?

Jan has answered that question already. They won't do it because it would delay the camera for a long time - it's not as easy as it sounds.

"I don't really know the engineering behind it", no, but I bet she does.

But here's to hoping the PAL version will have 24 in the variable framerates... :)

'cause, the money. Yes, the M O N E Y! Thus, it's more difficult to you to go out, to fly away and to buy their competitive own :) product. By other side, without this trick it would be impossible so money-spinner to sell a HVX 2 8Gb bundle alone. There is who would indentify this as P2 european strategy.

Why not in US too?... Should we know why will not be?! Is it necessary?

I distinguish that as GREED or old-fashioned Sony-style (curiously, regarding the american fellows reports, US Sony-style as well). That's also why I sound like so "enthusiastic" in defend here and in another places a second way - this would be truthfully "the revolution": HVX 24p/60i for PAL users (solved the tech obstacles*, outmoded concepts, changing mentalities - a little bit difficult & longer - despite the great features of the 25p because its progressive properties).

*There will be for sure but so many? More than all the problems that we can find in a feature production or in any post-production process? (I don't speak for news/events work or videoish markets)

The canon xl- h1, Emanuel, will have (for an added 500 euros), universal comaptibility- Both pal and ntsc and 24 and 25fps modes. However, the ccd's are not progressive, and the film gamma is, well, not too filmic. However, the option is there.

I agree with you. Nowadays, HDV gave us Universal cameras capable of going beyond the hurdles of regional signals (good globalization?). However, Panasonic simply stood in the times of ancient proteccionism, probably due to a very vast and diverse distribution policy, where little is controled by the main house (Matsushita, or Panasonic Japan), in contrast to Sony's and other manufacturers stronger control and ties with the main house.

This type of archaic marketing from Panasonic (not USA or japan, I presume)really reflects in their poor marketing campaigns, and their lack of comunication and knowledge of these products, from vendors to distributors- I say this with hands on contact with both Asian and European Panasonic distributors. (the european costumers can pretty much attest to this lack of knowledge from their hands on experience at IBC- it had to be the American Product Manager to clear all the questions...).

It's time for a global marketing restructuring from Panasonic. Enthusiastic and dedicated people like Jan Crittenden, from Panasonic USA (hope I didn't mispell the name), or Pananz, from New Zealand, are really what Panasonic need in this new era of communication. (this sounds more like a political speech than anything else :(

I would say that Jan has done more good for the DVX and HVX in europe then those guys who work there.

So yes, Jan should be the International Manager for Panasonic Broadcast.
