GH4 @ 1080, 200Mbps...what are you getting for all those bit's?

Here is one for all you technically inclined folks out there.

Typically when you are recording higher video rates you are getting better color depth (4:2:0 vs 4:2:2 vs 4:4:4) ro a higher bit rate etc... On the GH4 you have the ability to shoot 1080 as high as 200Mbps, but what are you getting for all that extra Data. Personally, I'm not into pixel peeping, but I do find it interesting to read about. What are the advantages are to using the higher bit rates for 1080p on the GH4

Has anyone tried to grade 200Mbps vs lets say 50Mbps?

Theoretically a higher data rate should result in less compression artifacts. The 200mbps data rate on the GH4 is for the intra frame compression choices only. Depending on the source material you shoot (picture complexity and motion) the 200mbps settings may or may not result in better picture quality as compared to the interframe compression settings of 50mbps or 100mbps
The data rate has nothing to do with the color space (4:2:0 or 4:2:2) this is a separate specification. The GH4 does have the ability to shoot at 4:2:2 using an external recorder either thru the HDMI port or from the yagh.
It can not record 4:2:2 to the internal sdhc card.

I hadn't considered less compression artifacts, thanks for that answer.

Typically CODEC's with more color information have higher bit rates. I know the GH4 shoots 4:2:0 internally and can shoot 4:2:2 externally.

For many shots the 100mb/s IPB is probably the better choice, as it can pack more image info/detail into less bits, but for shots with lots of motion it can struggle, and the intra-frame will look better. It's also easier for a slower computer to edit.
