I seem to be running into a little bump.

I have 1024x768 prores lt footage (a quicktime screen capture converted to prores lt). and i cant seem to set the sequence up in a way that makes editing easy.

Is there a way to set it up that I dont need to render the footage?

Whats your "sequence" settings?
If you drop the footage into a NEW sequence, FCP will usually prompt you if you want to change the sequence settings to MATCH the footage. Which means, it will probably allow you to edit your footage without having to do much converting.

FCP is designed to work with broadcast tape and tapeless formats. That is a very non-standard dimension...FCP will edit that, but under EXTREME duress. No real time, lots of rendering. It isn't designed to edit screen captures of those dimensions...ProRes or no. This is why I always do my screen grabs as 1920x1080, or 1280x720.

thanks shane. That makes perfect sense. time to screen capture the screen capture at a different resolution.

Thanks again!

Instead of "screen capturing the screen capture," try just running your files through Compressor. Depending on what is in your screen capture you can probably convert it to 1280x720 without seeing much skew. Or if the skew bothers you, you could have Compressor letterbox it.
