100B and tapeless - Not using Firestore or nNovia

What I want to do - if possible - is capture directly to FCP via Firewire on a Powerbook using "capture now" and not use tape at all in the DVX body. Obviously the camera won't be sending timecode since there would be no taperoll, but FCP will make it's own using the "non controllable device" option in "capture now".

My questions are:

- Has anyone done this and did it work?
- Did the camera send out audio through Firewire or is no audio sent out because the tape isn't rolling?
 
I would also like to know how to do this, except with avid. and is it also possible to capture to tape and directly into avid at the same time?
