100A: Hum in audio with external mic when tape is in

I have the AGMC100 mic. I'm getting a hum that's recording to tape. It seems to be the same regardless of level setting. Also, sometimes it goes away a few seconds after I begin recording. The sound is never heard when there is no tape in the camera.

This happens while using either battery or line power and in any location.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

what's the intensity of the hum? you can hear it just in lab conditions or it's significant?

It's loud enough to be heard through headphones under any conditions. The 60hz filter in Premiere removes it, but I don't want to lose any of my range.

a 60hz hum which is generated by the camera (since it happens in any location), but just when the tape is in?

interesting. did you try, besides, obviously, go to a forest with no power supply around, to change some variables (mic, tape, etc..)?

Thanks for your replies.

I didn't take it to a forest :-) , but I did take it outside, to several different buildings and in my car. Same everywhere.

I just had a new mic sent to me under warranty (my local service place couldn't isolate the problem, so sent me a new mic) problem still exists. I think it may have to do with the grounding of the tape mechanism. Is there a way to send the camera directly to Panasonic, as opposed to my local service outlet (that doesn't seem to know the camera very well)?

Did you check the continuity of your cable?
Tried two different mics, both with only the short default cable (no extension).
I also tried a 30 ft extension to isolate the mic from the camera.

Thanks.
