100A busted

I don't know exactly what to do here other than post this.

Have, or rather had, a pristine 100a used for feature movie production by a very anal DP that never let anyone touch it. Always stored inside it's Pelican case.

It was knocked over last night and now doesn't work correctly. After researching it it seems that the head is ruined. Otherwise everything works normally. I was quoted $700 to fix it. Problem is that I don't have that kind of money as I was donating the use of all my gear, time and gas to this production and the insurance doesn't cover my stuff.

So here I am, having to offer this thing up for sale. I'm out almost $4k now with no way to recover it so if someone could use this camera, please let me know what it's worth to you. And no, I'm not offering any accessories. Reply here or prv. msg. me.

that sux bro, if they broke it, they need to fix it, simple as that. If u broke it thats another story.

Yep pretty much sucks. I know depending on who you bought it with sometimes your credit card co. might cover certain damages. I know AMEX for instance offers buyers protection service that covers a range of circumstances both on and off premises for something deemed for "business usage". If you haven't already - I'd certainly look into that in the future.

Agreed but that's like getting water from a stone.

no its not, you cant just let ppl walk all over you and your equpiment. If this happend to my camera i woudnt be posting on line i'd be kicking ass and getting it fixed. THe person who used th camera last and broke is is in charge, if they gave you a substantial rental deposit, u should have kept it.
I never rent/give my camera out unless i'm there and or i have a deposit, so on return of the hardware they get it back, if its screwd up they dont get it back. Just a few things u can use to protect your equipment, deposit deposit.
Any rental place takes your CC as a deposit so why shouldnt you? Just demand cash since i dont think u can take CC! LOL

Nobody walks on me, but when the stone has no water, squeeze all you want man. It's my fault for agreeing to have the equipment there with no insurance.

As in all of life, everything that happens to you is your own fault. If you want to play the game then you have to accept that a ball might hit you in the head. I took too much risk in thinking I could control things well enough, as I always have, but now I'm paying for it big time and needless to say, no one will get my services again without paying well for them.

What a week.

shitty deal dude, you should have taken out a tenants policy and added all of your camera equipment to it. My insurance covers everything from dropping my camera to acts of god etc.

Thank you for posting this! Not EVERYTHING can be covered by insurance; not everything will be paid for by someone else. There is such a thing as an ACCIDENT, and they do happen and there's not always someone to blame.
You took a risk, and it didn't work out; but you show honesty, character, and integrity with posting the above, and that is WORTH MUCH MORE than a lousy $3000 bucks. It will be with you for the rest of your life. Kudos to you!

good point vidled -- the onley caveat to that would be an agreement , verbal informal or otherwise, where they said they would take care fo him if anything happened.
DUDE: I don't know guys ... A feature's a along shoot - what if something happens to my camera - she's all I have.
THEM: Don't worry man OF COURSE if we break it we'll take care of ya.

I used to lend stuff out to theatres all the time like that.

NOW ...
If anyone thinks there home insurance or renters insurance policy covers their camera WHILE OUT ON A SHOOT ... CALL YOUR AGENT TODAY AND VERIFY THAT.
then
PM ME OR POST HERE SO THAT I CAN SWITCH TO THEM.

We have $27,000 of renters insurance. $10k for the regular stuff and $16K for DVX computersa and all my other gear. But I have specifically asked:
Q:If I hand this to my friend in my living room and we drop it and it breaks
is it covered?
A: Yes ofcourse.
Q: If I hand this to my friend and we are somewhere other than my home is it covered.
A: No sir.
Q: Is there anyway I can purchase that insurance?
A: No sir.

Not with rental or home insurance. You have to get some kind of seperate insurance. Now if the above happened on a shoot ... well let's just say if the camera was ever dropped -- it would be dropped at home.

If Anyone has a policy that covers your stuff when you are on vactation or out shooting let me know and we will switch to your company immediately. Of course if you are getting paid I think that makes it even harder. I think you can easily use the garage band argument if you are not getting paid so it's just the same as if you spilled your beer on your guitar amp (which cost 1K) in the garage but you are not someone who's making more than 50% of your income playing music. If you are getting paid (even if it's dropped on a volunteer, or self producing no pay gig, or filming your family at the beach) then your stuff is business equipmenta and then that's another barrietr from home insurance - has to be a seperate policy.

$500? I think its worth more than that. Just my opinion though. However if you sell it broken you are going to take a hit.... at least if you can borrow? some money get it fixed then sell it to pay back the $700 you would come out better off... just a suggestion.
