100A and FCP4 compatibility issues

I have the newest FCP (HD) and I cannot get it to recognize my panasonic. Ive tried everything, and its a major pain in the ass. Nothing is worse then having to render an uncompressed movie file, import it to Premier, then run it off to tape

anyone experience this and know a quick solution? It never worked with FCP4 and not HD, and i sold my two xl1s's (compatible with FCP) and im a shitty bind

Should work fine. Check you firewire cable. If all else fails shutdown computer, start up camera in VCR mode (won't work if left in camera mode), start up computer and FCP. It shoudl find it on startup. If that doesn't work double check cables and go to View -> Refresh AV devices

Both the DVX100 and DVX100A are indeed qualified by Apple to use with FCP4 and HD. You can get the qualified product pdf at apple.com/finalcutpro under tech specs.

According to Apple the only issue related to the DVX100A is that you may need to set an offset for "edit to tape".

Also- not sure if it's required for operaton or if it just improves operation, but there are files on the FCP install disc (in extra's folder- called DV tuner's) that you may need to install.

I wish I could say for sure what your trouble is- I have no trouble with my DVX and FCPHD (though I almost always capture from and edit to a seperate DVCpro deck not the cam).

One thing I have heard is that the front firewire port on some earlier G5's is funky- have you tried the rear ports (if on a G5)?

Are you sure your settings are all correct in FCP?

And as stated above- what about another cable? I actually did have a firewire cable once that was crap.

Keep poking around- DXV100 and FCP4 (HD) do work together.

good luck,
Jon

Re: 100A and FCP4 compatibility issues

As mentioned try another port or a different firewire cable. You can also get firewire 800 to camera cables now.

Are you able to capture?

Have you tried iMovie?

Can you capture from any other camera?

I assume Premiere is on a PC or is it an older version on you Mac?
