Hey guys, I wanted to share with you my experience on using a flying camera rig on my new film. I built a rig that allows 1 person to fly and operate the camera wirelessly , and still be able to see what they shoot with it. All for under a $1000. It's not the best aerial rig ever, but it does work for a lot of different shots. Here's a trailer of my new film where you can see the shots I got.

Also here is more info about the making of the film: http://tomantosfilms.com/?p=377#more-377

GoPro camera? At first I thought you rigged something like a GH3 to fly for under $1K, and then I click on the link and find out it's a GoPro. Anyhow, if the GoPro footage works for your film, more power to you. It's the results that count in the end!

Thanks... do u think it works. I shot the main stuff on the Red Epic and I cut in the aerial shots from the GoPro Hero 3... can u see the difference in quality?

Hi
Thanks for sharing your movie. I am wondering if you can share the additional parts for the video link on phantom.
thanks

Well, I wouldn't expect to on youtube. When the lens is superwide you get that "security cam" effect, but it's hard to judge with the snippets so short. As long as you can match the color cast more or less, that's going to be key for most audiences. Where do you expect to show it... theater? If it's just for web/TV that's one thing, projected on the big screen quite another.

If the footage is POV of the drone then it doesn't matter if it matches. It's a different POV. You could even grade it to match less to enhance the POV, you could try to make it look IR or UV. Or just grade strongly towards any one colour and then either coarsen or sharpen the image depending on the whether the drone is supposed to be contemporary or future technology.

Dont have a live video feed from phantom? By looking your picture I thought your lcd monitor is fed by a video transmitter.

The phantom only allows you to attach a camera and fly around filming blind. So I connected a 500mw video transmitter and I have a video receiver on my LCD monitor so I can see real time what Im filming.

the DJI phantom is the new hot accessory. It gives you almost ready to shoot, a nice little quadcopter for 700$ (just need to balance motor and props to get rid of jello). pop up the thing from its box, make your shot, go to the next shot.
the gopro is not a problem because you got the adaptive wide angle feature in photoshop.
