Hey everyone... this is seriously driving me nuts. Has anyone seen interlacing like this before? I was shooting in 29.97 and captured standard DV NTSC. Can't remember what scene file, but I want to say F4 for some reason... can't remember why. I was slightly intoxicated

Is there any way that you know if that I can salvage the footage? Luckily most of it is sped up by 3500%, so you can hardly see what is going on, but at certain points throughout the night someone interacts with the camera and I slow the footage down to around 15% and the interlacing looks disgusting...

I tried to re-capture with pulldown removal, but it did nothing.

In your capture settings and sequence settings check to make sure your field dominance is set to lower if that is set correctly in both presets then the fielding should be correct. The other thing you could do would be use a deinterlace filter to renove interlacing all the way around. I recommend Smart De-interlace by Graeme Natress.

Ah! Stupid me. Didn't even think about using a filter... Nattress to the rescue!

Awesome, thank you for your help!

Have you watched the footage play back on a standard TV? I don't think it will look like that.

agcohn-

Yeah, I just did. It looks fine with the smart de-interlace.

Anyone know why this happened in the first place?

Project settings, or import settings -

You should try vegas, much better IMHO than FCP for some of these and other reasons...

I think it is mostly a problem that computer monitors have in displaying interlaced footage.

Hi Corey! The effect you see on the right hand window (apparently MASSIVE interlacing) is
simply due to "interference patterns" between capture height (number of pixels) and
display resolution/window size (smaller number of pixels).

If you can alter your screen's resolution, it'll look different again. The footage is clearly
interlaced, but other than that , it'll be fine . This is not a footage-fault issue , it's a
software/display resize issue!!

- Ruff !

Interference patterns can be seen "live" as you drive past two long sets of railings
(fencing) , one behind the other (IIIIIII) - it's that sweeping bar effect.

Instead of paying me $10 , I'll have a 10$ stake in your filming business please! - That'll
be worth millions in a few years !
