Hey guys...while randomly researching creativ DSLR rigs, I came across this obviously talented lad and his $10 FF solution...gives 'practicalality' a new meaning I think.

Hope this solicits additional practical solutions! Ha.

I wish he'd have at least put a couple of rubber bands around that so the metal clamp isn't just tightening onto his focus ring. I mean, jeez, you must be really confident in knowing where to stop tightening it or something.

Wow....no kidding.

I've seen this before. Has anyone actually used it and happy with it?
Still...yikes.

isn't the editman a poster here? I think there was a thread on here before somewhere about this. this video is probably one of the ones he mentioned as to where he got the idea from:

Yeah, it's my picture and construction. I think it was around $4 in total.
You don't have to tight it that much before it doesn't slip and overtightened is not recommended.

It works so much better than turning the focus ring on the lens. It also makes fast focus pulls so easy.
It's also supersmooth with no play as many FF units have. If you want to make focus marks you just have to put some white tape next to it and make marks.

I thought it was the height of creativity. Also, very much like your work commercial work editman. Nice shots.

I love this idea. I'm going to try and make one today. Any tips on how to protect the lens from the metal of the hose clamp? Also, I don't understand what the shrink wrap does, can you explain that? How do you deal making multiple marks on the rubber band? I mean, since they don't seem erasable, like a china marker is on plastic, how do you get rid of the lines and make new ones?
Thanks,
SNS

You can probably go to your local office depot or similar store and grab a bag of the thicker type rubberbands to use as a gasket between the metal coupler and lens.

Yes any typ of rubberband will work to avid marks on the lens ring. I got another idea which I'm going to try. It's to put Zacutos Zip gear on the outside of the hose clamp and thus making it compatible with 0.8 pitch FF.

Just got a Shoot35 Cinefocus but would like a leaner version of gear rings.
