10 Dead in MN

Another school shooting. Big deal. You know how many people are dying all over the world every day? I don't see anybody crying about that. Never makes the news.

What makes the news is indeed a very small selection of what's happening in the world. People die for a variety of reasons, most of them not entirely preventable (how do you prevent natural disasters? famine? tribal wars?).

I don't know if this was preventable or not - what I do know that storming into a school and opening fire is not quite normal or natural. Besides, you know, Ms. Shiavo will probably gonna die soon, the vultures at media news desks need a new story to work...

Speaking of Ms. Shiavo - THAT's and issue I'd rather see not covered by the media. C'mon, news people, don't you have any sense of someone's long-time suffering and respect for people's privacy?

Regardless of the media coverage (or lack thereof), the school shooting is a tragic event, and most tragic events make people to stop and think about the causes and what can we learn from it. That's not a bad thing.

Sure, T, feel free to not click. Some of us ( I know from a previous thread months ago) are very much interested in character studies, and the info is provided for that benefit. With the wealth of Weise's internet trail, we have a rare opportunity for insight.

BTW, glad my fevah was cured with the undahscoah!

Truth is... I read some articles about the kid earlier today. After a while though, I couldn't help but feel that this was exactly the kind of attention he was hoping to create. And, for that, I feel a bit guilty for contributing.

It seems to me that some kids who are contemplating suicide will view this kind of tragedy as an optional way they can make a "big splash" leaving this life. Not so far removed from the attitude of a suicide bomber if you ask me. Different reasons, similar mindset.
