10 bit 4:4:4 vs 12 bit 4:2:2 - which is best for cinema?

I cant tell you.

Im guessing 444 has more dynamic range.. or for a given DR there are more tones.

I did a little test and suprised myself in that high compression seemed to break the image more than low bit depth (the opposite of what I was suspecting).. so maybe the less compressed format?

Maybe perform your own stress tests.

I note vimeo seems to have messed this up.. maybe download the original if you can.

So far what I'm turning up points to 12 bit since the human eye detects variance in brightness more than variance in color. Anyone care to agree, disagree or other? Would appreciate your opinion.
