.... if it's another lame HDV, 4:2:0 compressed codec camera then I think I will throw up.... Give us RAW!

I don't know that the announcement is going to be about the XDCAM only. The form you fill out asks you to list what product you are interested in, and there are lots of categories.

Sony is not a stranger to hyperbole, so I would not be holding my breath. However, the market for HD/digital cinema products is almost like a wild west boom town now, with $1700 24p HD-DLSRs riding into town lookin' for a fight and the promise/hope of the Red Scarlet/Epic products, shootin' up Main Street every couple of days, anything is possible. I just can't see them introducing anything better and CHEAPER than the EX3.... I got stuff to do all day Tuesday, but you can bet I will be back here as soon as I get home that evening. This could be really something.

I asked at the Sony booth in the IoV show if the announcement would affect my consideration of another EX style camera. The Sony person said no.

Which means nothing. Maybe it was a pointless act with a pointless answer.

But I know of somebody who's been 'invited' because of his sort of shooting, so if I consult the entrails of my handy oven-ready chicken, it may be a small 'handy' EX camera a bit like the JVC HM-100, though probably a 1/3" chip. OTOH, I have heard and can understand the desire to move up to a 50 Mbit codec to match any claims from AVC-Intra (sic).

So I took the comment to be that there was nothing that would replace the EX1 and EX3, and if I wanted an EX1 or an EX3, what they were launching wasn't what I wanted. Which, if it were based on fact rather than supposition, would give me solace if I had just bought one.

Another 1/3" chip camera would make me vomit.

That would be a marketing mistake. Inviting people to sign up to see the "big" release of a 1/3" chip camera, not well recieved...

That is not what the market is wanting, it is what they are wanting to sell to the market if that is what it turns out to be.

The only clues that we have are that Sony has already discontinued the EX1, and they've applied for government permission/licensing for an EX1R, and that they've developed a new style of chip that turns the conventional CMOS sensor backwards, allowing them to gain a good stop of sensitivity. So my guess is a revised EX1R with a new chip, more sensitivity, and (perhaps) less IR sensitivity.

I'm not certain what market you're referring to, but -- the market is all about small chips right now. The 2/3" market looks deader than Jimmy Hoffa. All the buzz is in the small chips and in the DSLRs.
