1 week with the FS700

Just wrapped up shooting an episode in Vegas for a web series I co-produce.

I rented a 700 and had my 100 as well. Both rigged up with Berkey System setups.

I really enjoyed working with the 700. The built in ND alone has me close to buying one. I could work at a much quicker pace not having to fiddle around with 4x nd all the time. As far as getting the camera images to match, I had a little trouble with that. I got them to a point where I can get them close in post, should work out fine.

I'm not one to get into all the tech talk, so I'll be posting the episode as soon as it's done, should be up in a few weeks. I like to let the images speak for themselves.

Nice Pic postings,I don't know about that bubble bath scene tho, lmbo:huh: i've been debating about renting a 700 for a shoot myself but the more i've been seeing in person and hearing first hand has been really persuasive.

That setup in the second picture looks really comfortable.

If you didn't already have the 100, Would you get the 700 or 100?

I've had my fS 700 for about 3 weeks now and I'm loving it more and more as I go along. I really like the image and how you can tweak it, plus it's just such a versatile camera. People talk trash on the ergonomics, but the more I use it the more I like how it's just a box and you can add what you want and take away what you want. There are probably too many buttons on the side, a number of which I wish I could disable, but I'm even getting used to that.

As for bare bones hand held with no rig, I am loving it as I am a handheld junkie. Cradle it like a baby and I have my neck strap DSLR inspired cheat, and it handholds as good as any camera since it's still a pretty light weight camera.

Sony did really good on the FS700. Very nice, super tweakable image and fun to shoot with.

I was shooting 4 days straight, 80% handheld, comfortable the whole time.

700, not even a contest

Nice, that's good to hear.

I have the money to get a FS100 right now, but the 700 is extremely appealing for a lot of the sports I shoot (which funny enough also includes a little wakeboarding).
I have just heard so many good things about the 100 I just wasn't sure if the extra $3-4k for the FS700 was worth it.

FS700 it is!

I really think it is.

I want to point out two things about the 240fps slo mo that wasn't apparent to me before purchasing, having read the manual beforehand.

1. After recording an 8 second clip, which is a buffering process, you have to wait a considerable time after the shot while the camera actually records it to the SD card. If you are shooting consecutive clips, there is an unfortunate wait and stand around period for everyone on the set while this happens, before you make the next slo-mo shot.

2. Flickering from incandescent lights when filming inside. I haven't found a filter to get rid of this in post, and right now I don't see a cure for this. Even if some lights are out there that don't cause flickering, 99% of the time you can't choose your indoor lighting.

This is all standard knowledge that applies to ALL high-speed cameras like the Weisscam and Phantom. It's nothing specific to the FS700. Any casual viewing of an NFL or NBA match in super slomo would show some form of flickering, and all high-speed 250fps - 4000fps cameras record to a buffer then print to disc in real (ie slomo) time. Just sayin', it's not rocket science.
