I've noticed that when switching between these modes Their is a shift in light about 1 to 2 stops.
Depending on what scene file you are running it will get lighter or darker between modes.
Anybody know why ?
Which way do you see the shift? Is 25P more sensitive than 50i or the other way around?
On my old DVX there was a difference in light between progressive and interlaced.
Interlaced was brighter.
On my HVX I actually notice that 60i (in 1080 mode) was darker than 24P (in 1080 mode). So on the HVX there doesn't seem to be any advantage to shooting interlaced to gather more light like the DVX.
This is from minimal testing mind you....not an authoritative statement.
Well in film mode the default is 180 degrees. So whatever your frame rate the shutter will be half. So 50p would be 1/100 shutter. 25P would be 1/50.
I don't know how the HVX handles the interlaced modes at all. But the other day I did try to switch to 60i and noticed a drop in the perceived exposure. I had been in 24P over 60 and switched to 60i and saw the loss of light.
On the DVX 60i is a stop brighter than progressive mode.
On the HVX they're about the same. There is no interlaced scanning going on with the HVX, it creates its interlaced video by slicing up two progressive frames.
However, 60i/60p are about 1/4 stop less sensitive than 24p/30p are. Probably due to there needing to be time to offload the CCD data, so you probably aren't getting a full 1/60th exposure time.
