1-Minute Glidecam Rig

WARNING: Nothing happens in this video. Harry takes out the trash, for 4 and a half minutes. HOWEVER, if you appreciate down-and-dirty rigs and interesting footage, you might enjoy watching this. At any rate, the music is pretty decent.

Now, that being said, I'll explain the video.

My buddy and I strapped the DVX to a weighted mic stand via the handle-grip and some rubberbands. The stand has a nice round, weight base that held the camera pretty steady when in air, and it allowed us to drag the camera low to the ground with great ease.

We only ran one test, with zero practice, and this is the result. I'm quite happy with it. All available light, with some minor color and brightness adjustments in Vegas 7

Without further ado, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCTFp9ph8kw

Great job...although I imagine it would be interesting to see people's reactions as you carted around a mic stand....a little wobbly at points, but I imagine with practice this would improve.
Awesome...I'm stealing this idea!

Very good results for the poor man's low rig. It worked pretty well, and on the bright side, it worked much better than if you had to awkwardly carry the camera that low! There were streaks of time where it was very smooth. My guess is that you would get a little tired and redistribute the load, causing those moments where the camera jars off to the side.

That's exactly what happened. Guess I'll just have to do some arm curls.

But then again, in real-world use, we wouldn't do a 5 minute take like this... Well, maybe, but most likely not.
