1 CCD went down

Hello everyone.
This is a long story. Sorry.

I have a dvx100e. I damaged my lens. I tried to open it and change the lens. Unfortuantely when doing the repair i should burnt some of the electronic boards so the camera no longer could be used. Whenever i attached the battery, a white screen would appear.

I took it to Panasonic. They told me that a board needed to be changed and that it would cost €50. No problem. BUT they also came out with another big failure, they said that one of the data cables of the CCDs unit had been cut (??????). I said that that was impossible.

Well, the cable could not be repaired and the CCDs unit should be changed, at a cost of around €800 (+another €900 of job hours). I answered them that i was not going to pay for something that i had not cut, and asked them to give me the camera back without repairing.

So now i have the dvx100e back. I had to pay for the budget €90. No problem, that is fair.

And how is the dvx100e now? Well, it is partially fixed. Very very strange.
- The lens has been fixed (probably changed) and i did not ask for that.
- The electronic board that had been burnt is fixed, so the camera works perfectly.
- But image from the camera gives bad colors. I think there is one CCD missing (lack of light, and strange colors). THis problems does not occur when playing old tapes.

So what i guess is that in order to make the budget of the problems of the camera they actually repair it (this is common in electronics, in order to know the problem you should fix it first).
They changed the CCD unit itself which is attached to the lens (i guess) and the boards broken too.
And since i told them that i was not going to approve the budget, instead of putting again the old CCDs, they left the new one but broke something so i could not use the new parts (i think this is fair, so i am not complaining about it).

So now i have a camera with new lens, new CCDs, which can play tapes, but which has some CCD cable desconected or something broken.

Today I opened the camera to check if i could see some data cable disconected but everything was in its place.

So here I am writing this long story to see if someone had this same problem or If anyone could give me any advice.

Thanks a lot!

Sure. Here they are:

Yeah, you've definitely lost the green ccd. You should contact panasonic to see if they can do anything for you. Have a warranty?
If they deny you, you could open her up and try checking out the contacts of the CCD's... maybe something came un-soldered or moisture built up in there.

Your green CCD is inoperative because red + blue = magenta. There is a very slim possibility the techs disabled your green output in the service menu setup. I'll PM you later tonight about how to get into the service menu.

I doubt the warranty is going to cover it. Hopefully Barry can help once you get into the service menu but it sounds like Pana already told you it was damaged so that's probably a long shot.

Warranty is over.
The CCD unit is new for sure. So either they broke it, disconected a cable or manipulated the menu as you said.

From your description in the first post, you have ripped the ribbon cable from the green CCD to the board. Those cables are fragile ann meant to be minimally handled. I'm sure this is something you did without noticing it, but unfortunately you must replace the whole CCD block in order to fix the camera. As for the warranty, that was gone the moment you've got your screwdriver in the proximity of the camera.

I don't thing they will leave a new ccd block in side due to the block cost more than
1000.00 US$ and it is not hard to replace it , the problem could be around the ccd
block , flux. cable or camera board , get in to the service manual will not fix it , the
flux. cable will break if u don't handle it well and it will looks like cut , I agree with
PANASONIC NZ .

I doubt they left a new ccd blocd in your unit , it cost more than $1000.00US and
it is easy to replace , it will cause a cut like on the cable if people don't know
how to handle it , your problem could be on the ccd , cable or camera board ,
det into service manual can't fix it , I agree with PANASONIC NZ .

Then, why is the lens new? Isn´t it all in the same block?
No, it's not. They are separate/separable parts. I don't know why the lens is new since you asked for your camera back without repair, but by your description you surely messed the flat cable that goes from the green CCD to the camera board. It is VERY easy to do it, that's why you shouldn't open the camera if you're not absolutely sure you know what you're doing.

Those cables can't be fixed. You cannot solder on them (they melt) and the end towards the CCD is actually inside it so I don't think you can have access to the cable termination.

I never said it is a weak cable. It is not meant to be handled by unqualified people (no offence), because basically if you bend it, it's gone. Service people know how to do it though. There's no diagram or picture available, the CCD comes as a single part and it is shown as such in the service manual so there's no detail on the CCD side. You'll be better off if you get the whole thing replaced.
