Used a Fs7II the other day at 29.97p so had to set the camera to NTSC area.. but then I needed 1/50th shutter as shooting in 50Hz location.. but no 1/50th ??? only the "NTSC" shutter speeds... surely this cant be the case .. thats like some prosumer camera... what was I doing wrong.. I know there is angle .. but is there no way to add 1/50th in "NTSC" mode.. ? thanks

You are correct. In 29.97p the shutter speed jumps from 1/30 to 1/60. In 23.98p you can do 1/50 but not in 29.97p.

If you want to shoot NTSC region interlaced (60i) your shutter speed needs to be 1/120th, for PAL region interlaced (50i) it needs to be 1/100th.

For progressive, 30p needs 1/60th and 25p needs 1/50th and 60p needs 1/120th.

Those are the default shutter angle values, you can divert from them for special effects.

ok thanks . I did think of ECS but wasn't sure.. I went back to angle and shot 172.8..

Gary .. the problem was I had to shoot 30p in a 50hz location.. ie I would get flicker off practicals in the office at 1/60th.. so I needed 1/50th.. the F5 /55you can select your own desired shutter speeds all in the one menu item.. there is no PAL/ NTSC setting.. but the defaults for NTSC fs7 ..no 1/50th.. but next time I will use the ECS.. I did shoot 172.8 .. but I prefer to use speed.. alot simpler if less hipster :) ..I hope the fx9 is not PAL/NTSC specific ..a bit surprising for the fs7.. which is a camera used in many countries with different Hz.. if Im in the US shooting 25p I would want 1/60th shutter..

So there is no way to "add" shutter speeds to that menu like you can with the f5/55.. I can understand the default being like this .. ?

For NTSC in PAL land, shoot shutter angle at 172.8.

Yes thats what I did.. but what Im saying is its alot simpler to not have the NTSC/PAL choice in the menu.. and like the f5/55.. not have it at all.. choose you frame rate in one menu with all the options..its called frequency in the f5/55.. choose you shutter (speed or angle) all in one menu.. you can actually custom choose what you want speeds you want to come up in the menu.. .. the fx9 doesnt seem to have this NTSC/PAL menu item.. not sure why the fs7 has it.. ?
