1/48 Shutter.

Just wondering why the DVX shoots in 24fps, but with a standard shutter of 1/50.  Shouldn't it be 1/48 to be in 'standard' synch?  Any details would be nice if anyone knows why Panasonic chose this...

thanks,

Re: 1/48 Shutter.

The NTSC version shoots at 24fps and has an open shutter default of 1/48.

I'm guessing you read a post by a PAL DVX user, whose camera shoots at 25p and thus has an open shutter of 1/50th.

Re: 1/48 Shutter.

The NTSC version (with "shutter off") also shoots 1/50th at 24fps. You can select 1/48th as one of the shutter speeds, but the default "shutter off" speed is 1/50th.

Which corresponds to a film shutter of 172.8 degrees, which is a common film shutter angle. 1/48, 1/50, it makes basically no difference whatsoever (unless you're shooting under certain fluorescents or other ballast-driven light sources and you're getting flicker, in which case you can manually set the shutter to something else).

Re: 1/48 Shutter.

I have the NTSC version and when I try to select shutter speeds I have never seen 1/48th.. Am I screwing up here?

Re: 1/48 Shutter.

Are you getting 1/50 ? Oh I almost forgot to tell you, you can set it if not.And do not worry you are not screwing up.8)

Re: 1/48 Shutter.

ok.. I am on scene file F6. when I go through the selection for the shutter I get 1/24, 1/60, 1/120, 1/250, 1/500 and 1/1000. When I tun the shutter off.. I hit mode check and i can't tell what the shutter speed is? Please forgive me as I am new.. What Am I doing wrong..

Re: 1/48 Shutter.

To access 1/48 shutter simply go to menu then camera setup and set synchro scan to 1/48.0 and then use the shutter speed selector to acess it.
