I have been using beta and as far as I know it is very close to release. I have not uncovered any issues with the final beta so hopefully it will release soon. I spoke with Sony today and while they will not actually specify a date, they do say it is close and really just in final QA stages. Of course, if at the last minute they find a problem... But such is any update.
Are there any real benefits for those of us who purchased S-Log? I doubt that I would use the built in SxS S-Log as opposed to the 10 bit recorded version.
The CBK-RGB101 option ($899 upgrade or now included with the F3) enabled S-Log gamma as well as dual-link RGB 444 recording. The 1.4 firmware includes among its features the addition of S-Log Gamma as one of the Gamma choices in a picture profile.
The 1.4 firmware S-Log Gamma can be a 10 bit signal if you are recording to an external 10-bit recorder.
Nothing has changed about the camera other than the fact that there is one more available gamma option in a picture profile.
Thanks for the addition-- LUTS with the paid version. The 1.4 firmware just gives you the gamma curve. But for those buying a new camera now, you're getting the former "paid version."
Does the new upcoming firmware mean that you'll be able to dial in the colour temperature when using S-LOG? I do this all the time when not using S-LOG and would find it a really useful tool to have. Thanks, Sparky
you can mess with the s-log adj function for now in the camera set menu - and you can tweak it up and down. but yes for run and gun work this would be a lot faster
