07Q Firmware v2.10.141

The FS700 is not capable of outputting 4K100p continuously. It is too much data to fit through the pipe. So it loads it into an internal memory buffer and then plays it out at a speed it can handle, 50p (for 100p material) or 60p (for 120p material). The memory can store 440 frames of 4K RAW.

This is how the Sony recorder solution works as well.

So when I'm in Pal mode. I switch the FS700 to 100fps @ 4k. If I use the trigger on the 7Q, am I just recording 50p footage? It plays back in slow mo and I recorded a clip that was about 90 sec on play back. It says on the 7Q that it was a 100p input in a 50p wrapper. So should we only be using the trigger from the camera to record HFR 4k?

Hmm, yes back to need to login, which I can't with existing details? So it doesn't ask for choice of a username when re-registering and says it will use your email
address which it says I can't reuse. Password reset sends me a code, but then won't let me reset it, as it goes to code on new site where I don't exist.

im guessing if I re register with a different email, I'll be able to dl, but then won't I get stuck trying to reactivate codes? Or I just use the original ones generated from site v1?

Yes, it is explained in the release notes that one must always trigger on the camera in this mode.

Great new FW CD, awesome new playback features, 120fps 4K/buffer works great! Now using it for a motorcycle-shoot in Barcelona tonight, thank you guys.

I called CD and they sent me a new password to use.

Amber has created me a new login to use via em. Note switch brains, read email and it's not a reset to old login (username), it's a reset/creation to new login which is your email address. The password change link in the new dashboard appears broken, but I'm sure it will get fixed. Incidentally there is a direct dl link for the fw next to dl section, but better off registering on the new site to dl it. Won't post it here in case it's tied to the account

Hmm. I download the latest firmware. Unzip it on my PC. Drag the unzipped file to the formatted CD SSD. Put it in the 7Q. Turn the power on. I get nothing. No prompt to install firmware. Trying to figure out what i could be missing.

Nermind. It works to drag just the }Odyssey_Update{ folder in. :)

The }ODYSSEY_UPDATE{ folder needs to be in the root of the SSD - sounds like you put the folder above it from the zip file in the root.

I'm noticing that clips recorded (4K2HD 24 fps) before to the update aren't playing. I get a freeze frame and a playback error message (6). Clips recorded after the update seem to be playing fine. Should the drives be reformatted after the update?

Being able to use "end trigger" mode for 4K/120 is really cool.

Can't believe the power unleashed in my FS700

Very likely. This happened at the last update. Could not play clips from previous fw. And the answer was exactly that. Copy them off, format, start recording clips with the new fw. Wasn't too painful.

I had bookmarked the old "RAW Post Workflow" document from Convergent Design. It's gone now with the new site. No problem, but.... is there a new one? I skipped working in RAW, but this new 120fps stuff i'll use for sure. I need to be able to conform it to something else in Resolve though.

And darn it i wish Adobe would get the Premiere Pro dng color sorted out. It would be so nice to just edit the footage natively!

100 frames Raw end trigger half works very nicely! Looking forward to testing more.

I can no longer get any input from my Sony A7 using the hdmi<>sdi converter I can with the previous firmware. The inputs bounce around trying to detect and show no picture (and make the 7q gui almost unresponsive). In Dpx mode this menu described in the release notes is missing :
Incoming Video Format Menu Setting
For setting type of 1080 signal between 1080p/psf, 1080i and 1080 23.98 over 60i (3:2 Pulldown). Selecting 3:2 Pulldown sets recording to remove 3:2 pulldown cadence and record material as 1080p23.98. 3:2 Pulldown in 720p not supported.
[INPUTS] [PROGRESSIVE / INTERLACE / 3:2 PULLDOWN TO 24P]

and in prores mode its there, but selecting progressive, interlace or pulldown, none of them result in a signal. Note I retested the setup on old firmware before upgrading.

I've tried pal/ntsc and any combinations.

Any suggestions mitch?

Cheers,

Kieran

Why doesn't someone just post the FW on here?

I haven't updated yet... will do it when I get back next week. Anyone play with the 100/120fps? Are both options available to FS700 USA model? Either way, you get the same final output length (440frames/24 fps = 18.3sec). So I guess if you need to record a longer evet you would use the 100fps (hahaa longer from 3.6s to 4.4s :-P)

I imagine you would need to set your camera to PAL to get 100 fps.

One feature that wasn't mentioned in the Release Notes, but does now seem to be fixed with the new firmware:

Audio DOES play out the 3.5mm trs jack (headphone) when reviewing footage, even when the 7Q isn't attached to the FS700. *as far as I have tested, it works in all FS700-related modes that have audio recording!

Thanks CD/Mitch for listening and fixing that! Love finding little extra positives, even though we are still slowly working towards getting the other promised features...
