••stutterring d90 while recording••

When I got the camera a couple of week ago I did not notice did at all but it seems now that every now and then the camera stutters a frame while recording. I thought at first that it might be the LIVEVIEW screen trying to refresh the screen...but I now notice it on the video as well.

It looks as if one would pluck out 1 or 2 frames from the recording. The camera doesn't stop recording..it just goes on...it's annoying. Anyone has the same problem?

I am using a SacnDisk Extreme III 16gb card

this playing it directly from the avi file or in premiere/fcp?

directly from the avi file...both played back from camera and when downloaded to computer and playing it via quicktime or any other player that does avi.

I am starting to think that it the d90...you have to look for it...but it does happen

it's very subtle...I've been checking all my avi's and it is there...it is one or two frames...so if you are not looking for it you might miss it completely. it is as if the card does not write fast enough or the chip does not process fast enough.

I am starting to believe that it might be a d90 issue....

could have a faulty camera....first i've heard of this. there was similar issues, but it was on a 29.97 timeline in an editor. i looked at my vids and haven't noticed it on any of mine.

uuuugh! I hope not...it is so subtle...almost non existent. i wonder if it is the card?
I think i will reformat and see

i've seen a hiccup on screen, but it never affected the video when i viewed it. and it was only when i panned.

hey I remembered you told me this at the other posting....next time you see that hiccup on screen, make a mental note. If you can, play it back via quicktime and go frame by frame to see if you also see the jump. When played back at normal speed on my computer, you would by pass the hiccup...but if you go frame by frame, you see the 1 to 2 frame jump

I think I found the reason for this. If this is true, then all d90 are exhibiting the same issue...look closely at your footage and tell me if you see it.

" I also felt that the D90’s 24-frames-per-second video speed produced slightly jittery results in playback and I craved the 30fps HD speed of the higher-end Canon 5D Mark II. I also thought that the D90 lagged a bit when panning in the movie mode, producing a split-second stutter as I followed the action, which became more prominent the greater the pan. Not bad—but not perfect, either."

Hi.
1-Camera has no stabilization system only "VR" lenses.
2-I have the same problem with stuttering recording from time to time.
I can see it happening while the video is being recorded. No solution or idea why it is happening yet. (I am trying to determine if it is happening when SD card is almost full).

Thanks.

Well the article I just linked says it happens regardless. I have an empty 16gb card and it happens within the first 5 seconds and then it shows up here and there during the recording. I think it is a fact that there is a stutter effect of panned video..no matter what..

i saw the video you uploaded of your daughter and can see it now when you point it out. i did actually stop recording and checked the video the second i seen it hiccup on screen and didn't notice it affect the video any though. so, dunno...guess it's if you look for it you'll see it kind of problems. i'll have to check mine again. it's not bothering me any.

What speed is your card. I would try and borrow someone's UDMA 300 compact flash card if you can and see if the faster card can help. When moving the camera there is more info I believe the processor is working harder to keep up. Just a thought but good luck with it.

there's actually less info when you move the camera due to motion blur. and the compression is intraframe too so it only sees one frame at a time.
