••My first music video ever...1 down, 9,999 more to go!••

Hey guys:

check out my first music video. I created this for a friend of mine that has a band in Austin Texas. I used a homemade 35mm adapter I have been working on for about a year. I am pretty happy with the results. I have posted this version that has not been CC. It was shot overnight (9 hours) and edited in a day and a half...talk about cracking the whip. I can honestly say it looks 1,000 times better on an NTSC monitor than this crappy Quicktime compression.

If you want to take a look at photos of my adapter, go to the DIY part of this forum and look for "••My first music video ever...35mm adapter completed!••"

enjoy!

Glad to be the first to chime in GREAT video man! I look forward to seeing what you do with CC. Well thought out and executed... very "FUSE" worthy as those of us who dig this sort of music and videos. Looking ofrward to the next 9,999.

thanks tizzy.....

yeah..im trying to decide what to do with the CC. I like the greenish look...as i had white balanced the camera to give me that clinical look......
probably i will end up crushing the blacks and bumping a little the mids. im more of a purist..I like to leave thisngs as is..or as close as possible.
If you like this bands music, check out their website at:

thanks for the encouragement

cool song, cool video, nice editing
I like the washed out look, I wouldn't go into crushing the black on this one.

Very nicely done. Like the music too. Do they like radiohead?

yeah...that is one of their influences I believe. in theor website they have a couple of bands that have inspired them.......radiohead being one. As soon as this video is CC and completed, i am working in another song of theirs...pretty exciting stuff

Nice Work Super8. Tell the Ol Chad Mister I said HI. He's a pretty good friend of mine (Pretty funny how very very small this world is some times LoL.)

I agree with you on the green color correction, although be careful as most of your video is white, so to much green will make everyone and the lights look very green. I took a clip of your video and did a quick color correction on it. It looks like you filmed under some floro's at times in the video which already gives it a small green tint to start with. I took it back into the magenta to make it pure white before I started my color correction. Sorry the image quality isnt the best. I didnt have the raw footage to go from, but you get the idea. Good luck and tell them I said HI!

super8,

dude, Im not sure you should colour correct that, I'd like to see it with CC but Its amazing as it is in my opinion.

actually amazing. I love it. Thought I saw some Gondry in there somewhere but It doesn't look ripped off, I assume he's one of your inspirations?

but yeah, Its fantastic man...at times the band aren't 100% on with the vibe and I'm not too sure about the really overlit band stuff at the end. but I think the whole thing is really great.

an inspiration, thanks man.

Adam.

pywl:

thanks for the color correcting....interesting look. I will sure try some of the ideas you gave me and see how it looks across the border. The more I play with it, the less I want to touch it color wise...a couple of tweaks here and there to make the image pop a little more. i will sure let Chad know you said hi.

adam:
thanks for the encouragement. To be quite honest I have no idea who Gondry is...but I will sure look him up. If this is sorta of his style...then it is my style too. :)
Yeah the band looks out of it in many segments...this is due that I was constantly coaching about feeling "empty". The song is about being told what we need and what we don't need. Outside forces..being advertising, religion, fads. Telling us to conform...looking for us and our people..to convert. The only way out is to come down our own personal fire escape...but sometimes we are the ones doing this to ourselves...as we are the only ones that can convince our selves to go this way or that way.

So the whole video is shot in a sort of dark, "uncomfortable" mode. At the end you see the band blazing white...kind of "hey I will not be convinced to change or conform...I am coming down the fire escape." But at the end it rapidly turn "uncomfortable" and it ends the same way it started...ugly.

Yeah a little too deep...but that is how my mind works. :)

thanks again guys

Wow. Great video man. They do sound a lot like Radiohead. I loved the music and video. The shot where the guy gets dragged backwards as it goes into the chorus is money. Good work. Wow.

thanks a lot. I am pretty excited about this video..for being my first i am extremely happy. Off course I am my own worse enemy when it comes to critiquing. I know there are lots of other stuff I should have done...but when you are your cameraman, director, and crew....and only have nine hours before people start coming to work into the office...it is run run run run.

Oh yeah...and I had just gotten the camera 3 days prior to the shoot and on day two I lost the camera manual. Thank God for Barry's book...it saved my arse. I already have another music video on the works......I will allow more time to complete film it. After working for years with full sized cameras, it was a real pleasure to go crazy with a light weight camera...and the picture quality? blown away my friend..just blown away

Hey guys:

for all of you who might still be interested...the music video is done.
Final C.C. and deletion and addition of some scenes. All in all it was a fun experience...already working on a second music video...woohoo

Is it just me or is there some vignetting goin on around the edges. Is that because of the 35mm adapter? Great video though
