••HOLY CRAP!! DVX straight to movie theater screen...Why would you EVER need HD?••

So the 48 Hour Film Festival in Tampa came and went. Yesterday was the screening for our film. All I have to say was...WOW! I have no idea what projection they were using or what the settings were...but I was blown away with the quality. I am not kidding you...I got chills watching my short. It looked as good as my PVM monitor...only freaking bigger. I had people coming to me after the screening and asking me if I had shot the short using Super 16...and these are guys that know film.

I had no time to color correct or add any Magic Bullet. Straight from the camera to the screen...I used to think I needed HD to take my ideas to the big screen...but now I wonder. Is it really that necessary? There was a film that was shot on HD and it did not look good at all. What's up with this?

I am freaking confused...my baby kicked a**!!!

A friend of mine shot a flick on the DVX and I had a chance to see it on the big screen. It was beautiful. I'm glad you had the same experience.

All these cameras can do very well on a blowup. DVX films have been nominated for two Oscars for "best documentary", a DVX and a PD150 film have both won "best cinematography" at Sundance, and the Oscar winner for Best Doc this year was partially shot on an HD100. So yes, your DVX may very well be good enough. Better is better, of course, but what we've got right now is amazing.

Congratulations,

Could I bother you for the settings you used to shoot your short. 24pa, 24p, 60i..? How about shutter speeds? I'd appreciate it sooo much.

cheers again
