GH5 “SLR Magic 25mm MicroPrime Cine T1.5 for M4/3”

I sold my Voigtlander 25mm for a SLR Magic 25mm and I've regretted it ever since. The SLR Magic was cheaper and had a geared focus ring (for a focus puller) which I thought I needed. But the SLR Magic was very soft around the edges compared to the Voigtlander, not at sharp in the center either, and for some reason it feels harder to focus with. Meaning that I've set focus with it, for a live performance say, where I have to set-it-and-forget-it because I'm operating a different camera, and when I get the footage back on my editing workstation it's all soft and poorly focused.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but it's happened several times, and I don't have the same trouble with my Nikon, Olympus, or Lumix lenses, so I'm hesitant to even use the SLR Magic now.

I know this may be comparing apples to oranges, because this MicroPrime lens is different. I just wanted to share my experience in case it helps anyone.

That's just my 2 cents. YMMV.

Try putting some tape on the focus ring and seeing if it holds focus better when unattended. But the point of your review is well taken.

I had a Hyperprime 10mm, the focus ring was stiff, stayed put, and was fairly easy to use. Focus was stiffer than my Veydra Mini Primes. The new Microprimes are more like the Veydras than they are the older Hyperprimes.
Cheers
