¿could will be possible edit AF-100 footage with HPX 170?

I have an hpx 170, now my work need to shooting with two camcorders, and obvious, that if I buy another hpx 170 with 2 decent p2 cards, it will be about $5,200, and like you know the new AF-100 could be about $8,000 with at least 1 good lens, maybe two. so because its impossible for me, to get in to the trash my new too hpx 170, and only can buy one camcorder more, I am question in maybe with some software can be possible to work with this two great but different codecs camcorders, I wish instead of buy the HPX170 maybe would have been better the economic HMC150, what a problem is to buy camcorders, if every year was changing models.

Avid Media composer can already edit DVCPRO HD and AVCHD in the same project

Technically, it shouldn't be a problem. As jason.adams has said, some NLEs can handle multiple codecs at once. You could also undoubtedly transcode both to an intermediary codec.

That being said, I don't know (nor does anyone?) how closely the footage will match between the two. It may be perfect, aside from DOF limitations, or it might turn out that one is drastically sharper/softer, or has really strong greens, or aliases, or has some other identifying "mark" in its footage that would make switching between footage jarring at worst and apparent at best.

Hey pallllaaaaa,
If you don't mind transcoding, you shouldn't have any problem getting footage from both cameras to work on the same timeline. What NLE (editing software) are you using?

As far as matching the look, we'll know how close it comes in a few months.

Also, I love Guatemala!
Wish I was there shooting with my HVX right now.

Yeah, the question here is: are you asking if you can use multiple codecs in the same timeline? Or are you asking if the footage will match between the two?

Because one of those questions can be answered today (mostly), and the other can't. AF100 footage should be the same file format as HMC150 footage (unless they've done something tricky and new).

Well the difference is AF100 has uncompressed sound. I know for fact FCP had problems with ingesting AVCHD with uncompressed sound from new Sony cams.

Yes, that is indeed a concern, but likely only for the Apple editing programs. I haven't heard any reports of the Sony footage causing issues with any other NLE, and by the time the AF100 is out surely Apple will have corrected the bug... surely...

I don't think it is a big concern- Clipwrap can transcode the footage without any problems. However I am losing my faith in Apple supporting video/sound and turning to general public.

roger that. Well, it's good to know that even if there's an issue, there's already a workaround so hopefully anyone needing to do work won't be stuck.

I'm not.

a 64-bit FCP that is multi-core/threaded is what I expect.

Yeah, right now Apple's NLE teams are hard at work adding vertically-oriented aspect ratios to their presets to accommodate the upright iPhone video we're about to start seeing everywhere...

I found myself shooting iPhone video that way while lounging in the yard with my girl and her new puppy over the weekend. Afterwards, I looked at the clips and thought, "yuck.."
There's a reason our eyes are HORIZONtally aligned on our faces.

It would be great if we turned the discussion back to the AF-100, and not Apple.
AF100 is a work in progress and there really nothing to discuss here. There is a wish list of items, otherwise it's pure speculation. On the other hand Apple haven't had such great record on working on known problems of compatibility between cameras, codecs and their NLE. There was on-going issue between JVC's HD series and FCP in L&C settings. Now there is an issue of Sony NX cameras, and so on. Lack of BD support for disc authoring is another issue. I am a customer, who invested thousands of dollars into Apple equipment and Apple programs. But recent direction of the company development and policies are at least worrisome.
As far as subject of "matching the cameras" I think it will will not be any different from shooting let's say EX1 and HMC150.

My trouble now is that I was working with my hpx170, and I do a little business with my own producer, but now my clients are requiring me to work with two camcorders, becuase they need more points of view. so I wish to buy the new AF-100, but like you know is not compatible with p2, and I dont know what to do, If I have to buy a new hpx170, or maybe two HMC150, really I dont want to do the incorrect thing, the new 3d Panny is HMC, the new AF-100 is HMC, so I think its wrong to buy another p2cam. And I cant sell my Hpx70 just one card 32gb I buy it for $1,800 in that time, firestore DTE, etc.
