Some cool stuff from Blackmagic.
- Resolve 20 with several AI improvements in the color and fusion pages. Nice.
- Pyxis camera, 12k, 16 stops for $4995..... Ok, so you will probably need another 2-3k for a handle, a side grip, a viewfinder or their touchscreen monitor. But still, pretty nice...
I watched it without sound. I have no issues with 4:3. For the room, it was probably an advantage. The wiggly camera was distracting and unmotivated. There was a lot of framing like below that I don't understand.
Chopping the singer off and leaving all the room behind the piano player - ok...
The squirrels are on their own now. While we still put out nuts for them, I've come to a plateau in our relationship. While they will take nuts from my hand, we haven't progressed to any sort of friendliness. It's all business. Get a nut and leave. So I've given up spending time with them.
But...
I should add that our lifestyle has not changed since I retired. We have pulled $20k out of the IRAs every year since 2017 and have seen no reason to raise it.
The giant tax loophole for seniors continues. For 2024, we had an income of $84,000. $58k of Social Security and $26k of IRA withdrawal.
The federal tax on the $84,000 was $121. That's right, 0.1% tax rate.
We did feel the effects of inflation just a bit this year. We did contemplate pulling...
That's a great thought Arash.
Charles, any thoughts about how gear heads are maintained? Is there a gear lash adjustment that might be too tight? Special lubricants?
By the way, who is this young man?
If this is the model you have, I would suggest you do a simple experiment before spending a lot of money to see how the added weight performs. It would be pretty simple to add weight to the wheels by using double sided tape and a plate of metal or multiple bits of metal on the face of the wheel...
Ok, one more from Skywalker Ranch. I saw a guy I didn't recognize in one of the offices and noticed he was writing music on blank music sheets. The door was open, so I wandered in. We chatted a bit. I noticed it was for Godfather III. So as they were completing the editing, he was watching each...
This was really interesting. I'd like to have more people do this exercise of a production diary. When I read your initial posts, they were of some interest. But after watching the movie, I had to read the diary over again and then it was so much more interesting because I could now understand...
How cool. You got approval from a great comedian. I've always wanted to see comedians work on material.
This is the thing that bugs me about sets. Everyone has to stay in their place. It sometimes gets downright silly. I was doing sound for an amateur short; all volunteers, just for fun. They...
I think I've told this one before a while back. I added a line to Terminator II.
Terminator II was being finished at Skywalker Sound. Two weeks before it's release, they did a test screening with a random audience at the Ranch. I wasn't supposed to sit in on it since I was an employee, but I...
Ok, I said that in a confusing way. By other side, I meant on the other side of the same ring. So there are two of these slots on the one ring (same side of the ND). If you look at 5:36 in this video, it will make it clear.
See the slot highlighted in the red circle (2nd image below the youtube video)? There is another one on the other side. A tool like the one in the link is used to unscrew the ring and then you can take the lens out. The tool is cheap. There are kits going for less than $8.
I'm not saying that...
Ouch. Perhaps next time, go directly to the source and save on Canon's 100-200% markup; maybe Duclos or these guys: https://cinematechnic.com/services/cine_lens_service/
