Presumably this means we'll also be able to get audio with 4K120, no? Either from the camera itself or via the analog audio input on the Ninja. That would be huge (unless I'm overlooking something that would prevent this).
I thought I'd share some pics of the 3D printed adapter for the Hoodman H32MB viewfinder on my FX6. This is the one that users jmone and broughtonfilm (Nathan and Mat) posted about earlier in this thread.
I have precisely zero experience with 3D printing, so I just guessed as to what material...
Apparently you can't batch stabilize—it only works one clip at a time.
I like the idea of gyro stabilization and the results seem good but the implementation is terrible right now. It really, really needs to be integrated into NLEs. There's a couple lenses I'm on the fence about because they...
For those of us wondering about the safety of 3rd party batteries Alister has provided an update to his original post on his blog: http://www.xdcam-user.com/2021/03/3rd-party-bp-u-style-batteries-and-sony-camcorders-update/
I was being somewhat facetious.
That said, I would love something more amenable to keeping things small and light. Your setup looks great for building the FX6 up, and isn't too dissimilar from how I built up my Fs5 for shoulder work. But it wasn't ideal for a lot of my handheld shooting (as...
Still less clunky than a Z-Finder...
Did some shooting outdoors this morning in bright sun and the LCD limitations were pretty apparent. It's usable at max brightness with the sunshade, but only barely so...
"Clunky" is about the best adjective I can think of to describe the Z-Finder on my Fs5. "Overpriced" would be a close second; luckily I found a good deal on eBay when I bought mine, although it still seemed like more than it was worth (especially thinking in terms of a lens, as you note)...
I had the Zacuto on my Fs5 for about a year before ultimately selling it (the Z-Finder, not the camera). As good as it was it felt almost comically overbuilt, especially on a camera as small as the Fs5. When I was fully building up the camera with rails, hand grips, shoulder rig, Shogun, etc...
I'd love to see others' ways of mounting a shotgun or similar mic. I used the stock mic holder on my Fs5 without issue, but it's certainly not ideal. I just struggle to think of a setup that doesn't add too much more height and doesn't block easy access to the top handle.
Good to know! The SmallRig stuff looks pretty interesting and might be exactly what I'm looking for. The Wooden Camera stuff looks great but for my work it's probably overkill (at least at those prices). Their baseplate is appealing, though.
It's just a cheap SmallRig baseplate that I originally bought for the Fs5. I'm not crazy about it but it works and has held up very well. If I want to use rods and lens support the only other option I have is a shoulder rig / VCT combo that adds so much unnecessary weight if I'm not actually...
Thanks for starting this thread Ben!
I'm US-based (Wisconsin for the past 7ish years). My day-to-day work is for a tiny sports media company that focuses on Olympic weightlifting. Otherwise I occasionally do freelance work (corporate, concert recordings, etc) and (pre-pandemic) some narrative...
Just FYI, two of my third-party batteries—a SWIT S-8U93 and a Wasabi Power BP-U60 equivalent—seem to work (mostly) fine with my FX6. At the very least they show percentage and runtime remaining.
First pic is the SWIT, second is the Wasabi Power.
Somewhat related: the Amazon series Red Oaks (which is worth checking out) has at least one episode (S01E03) featuring wedding videography from the 1980s. The main character is seen holding a JVC VideoMovie in several scenes.
And then later in the same episode we see footage from the...
I realize I’m about 5 years late to this party—given that the Sony FS7 was released in 2014 and the Fs5 in 2015—but I’ve just recently spent a few weeks with the FS7. Magnanimous Media in Chicago was running a special offering any rental for the long period from before Christmas to after New...
I'd love to hear people's suggestions (or guidelines) for shooting outdoors in cold weather. I just received a 100-400m lens and am looking to test it out and use it somewhere other than filming into my backyard from my office.
For some context on what I mean by "cold," the temperature the...
If any of you have Criterion Channel I'd highly recommend the short film "Mutts," available as of December on their site: https://www.criterionchannel.com/mutts
If you scroll down in this article you can see an Fs5 being used (with what appears to be an Atomos recorder)...
Selling my Zacuto GH5/GH5S cage with side handle. The condition is very good to excellent; I cannot see any real indications of use (as shown by the photos). I had this cage on my personal GH5S for around ten months and it worked extremely well the entire time. The only reason I'm selling it is...
What have been people's experiences with v90 SD cards? Or what would you recommend or avoid?
For years I've been relying on SanDisk SD cards and they've been fantastic. I don't think I've ever had a card fail on me (knock on wood). Unfortunately I'm not seeing v90 cards as an option from...
