I purchased a few 1000w lamps online to use in some lowel tota's. When I went to install them, I saw on the back of the light that they should use 750w max lamps. Are these 1000w lamps unusable now, or is that rating on the light a conservative one?

I've seen using CFL's with china balls, and I've seen fixtures that are designed to put out a big soft light, but are there any fixtures designed to use CFL's that put out a somewhat directional light? Also, are there CFL fixtures that have doors, or some other way to shape the light?
