What could be causing this problem around the edges?

Just picked up a 35mm static adapter with achromat, and I'm having issues with the image being out of focus, and the colors separating around the edge of the image. I thought the achromat would help fix that, but it seems to get worse with the achromat installed. Here is a test video:

Can someone tell me what the problem might be? Could this be an issue with the lens (both the lens and adapter are new to me, Jag35ST and Canon FD 50mm 1.4)

Wow that's horrible. What kind of focusing screen does this adapter use? What kind of camcorder? The opteka only works well with small cams like the HV20/30 etc. If you have a large camera then you need a quality achromat from the guys who know what they are doing. A ton of factors might be contributing. It is still advisable to use your money for a quality adapter from Redrock, SGpro, Cinevate, etc.

I'm using an HFS100. The focusing screen is whatever came with the holiday special Jag35 adapter.

I'm not really willing to throw down a lot of money for a higher priced adapter. If I really needed to I could maybe go for the Jag35pro if that would fix my problems, but that is really the limit of what I am willing to spend.
