OTHER: Looks like a new FX camera is on the way

There's a rule in manufacturing that the cost to fix a mistake goes up 10x for each step of the process it passes through undetected. A defect prevented for $1 during the design stage will cost $10 to correct in production and $100 to fix after it ships.

I would rather wait an extra 2 weeks than get a broken camera.

Looks like there's some QC issues causing shipment delays: https://www.sonyalpharumors.com/yes...layed-because-of-some-quality-control-issues/ I called BH and they're giving an ETA of Sept 1. No explanation as to what exactly the QC issue is.
The QC issue was MASSIVE! 😲 Just joking. :ROFLMAO: Most industry insiders are putting it down to the earthquake. My youngest son was over in Japan at the time and said it was pretty major. Here is the latest news as to what happened atone of Sony's major sensor plants.

Thanks, Chris. Some people in the Asian and Australian markets have gotten cameras. I wonder if they're having issues?

In some ways, the FX5 is looking to me like the camera so many were wanting in the past. Great DR, internal raw, easy audio etc... for $5,000. I wonder if they will make a hybrid version of it like the A7sIII. The A7iv/sIII has been very nice for me but the idea of better + GAS is tough to ignore. :)

Why would you get the fx5 over existing sony mirrorless options?

What's the best current sony for video AF? Is it the a7rvi Chris mentioned, or is it the more expensive a1 II/a9III?

I actually really like the EVF repositioning option, but I don't think I like the design as much as the small footprint in-build EVFs of the mirrorless cameras.

I think what the fx5 really has going for it that puts it ahead of Sony's past offerings is its superb image quality. In the past I've just sort of tolerated Sony's digital looking image because everything else was so great. In this review this guy compares the fx5's image to the Venice and the Alexa and I think he has a point:

What’s his point?

I am happy with the A7iv & A7sIII and decided to not look at the A7V. But if Sony incorporates the nice aspects of this new FX5 in an A7VI, I would be interested in selling my older generation cameras and buying the new generation. This would be a few years from now no doubt.

I just don't think we need to pretend the fx5 is winning any absolute IQ competitions. The fx5 will do many things extremely well, but it's still an elite all rounder, not an IQ specialist. The key difference with recent identical discussions is if you think the image has improved enough for you that's a huge win and all that really matters!

I do think the IQ has improved a great deal with the fx5. My issue with Sony cameras in the past has been the image quality, not usability. When I load my c70 files into my NLE I get that WOW factor that I just don't get with my fx6 or fx3 or whatever. Some of it is down to my skills as a shooter and editor, but I believe there is an innate look that certain cameras have (motion cadence, highlight rolloff, color, etc.) and others don't to a degree. Am I chasing film? Yes. Haven't we all to some extent since the dvx100?

Maybe the QC stuff was the "floppy screen" (06:45)?

I'd personally use the camera without a cage, but seems like the non-flush screw thread will bother some people (08:43 mark).
