Whenever I connect a field monitor via HDMI I lose a lot of options, the one I dislike most is no Ex Tele. Any way to get this back while using HDMI?

I'm new to the FD-m4/3 adapter or FD lenses for that matter, I purchased this lens on Ebay for a decent price but I'm having trouble with the aperture ring (or I'm doing something wrong). Without the adapter I can't get the aperture ring wide open, in fact it won't go any wider than f8 or so...
