34/0 (der killer) Feature Trailer

Hey all ...

This is the trailer for a feature I made last year, concerning a mysterious assassin known only by a number ... 34/0.

The film itself is very experimental, with some action and long ambient passages. For instance, there is a six minute sequence where the killer makes an egg. But, that aside, I was happy with the trailer I cut. It's action packed!

Hope you enjoy.

P.S. - concerning the music ... I found this music online, i forget where... I've been trying to track down the source of it. It's good trailer music .. I suggest using it for your next action trailer ... PM if anyone wants it, I have it as a MP3
P.P.S. - I've already sent some DVD's out as 'trades' for other indie features. If anyone has a DVD they're proud of and wants to trade, PM me on that, too!

Yeah!
DVX forever!!

damn, this looks like a great film! I'm seriously impressed! And you're right, this music is great. I'd love to know where you found it, or get a copy of that mp3. Do you think you'd be able to send it to me sometime?

Man, I wish I had this feature I'm working on now done so that I could trade you. I want to see this! lol.

From the other side, of the same country - Nice job!

I wish you every success!

quite impressive indeed. Any adapters used? Was this a first feature? Any shorts you've done?

Thanks for the comments everyone. I used a 'my35' adapter for some shots. A guy named Mike Dawson here in Toronto made it for me. It's been working out nice...

I did another feature before this called the the Long Shadows ... trailers are on my site at

Quicktime 7 'cause they're in h.264 ... sorry to any windows users (which is probably 80 percent of people)

Any other questions, just shoot.

Impressive trailer. The shots looked really sharp for some reason. Did you do any sharpening in post or how did you achieve that sharp look? Some shots were a little noisy but I don't care, I really love the look! :)

Regarding the music, I recognize it from another trailer somewhere. Can it be from the Limbo trailer over on the XL2 forum or something? I know I've heard it somewhere else, but where? Darn it, I'm not gonna be able to sleep now. :P

EDIT: I found it. The same music is used in the Clemency trailer over at the XL2 forum. I think someone commented on the music in that thread as well, saying the music was taken from yet another movie.

Superb Trailer, the sharpness definately gives it an edgy feel. I too would like to find out how you achieved the sharp look.

how come I cannot download or watching anything on the site. Every time I go there I get ' a recent attack to your computer was blocked '

and nothig works on the site

Re: The sharpening questions:
This is what I did: I took the cut as 720x480 into after effects, blew it up slightly to 848 wide by 352 (cropped to 2:35 to 1), and applied the standard sharpening filter to the whole thing.. very lightly, i think 14 percent or something. I did this because the h.264 compression seems to blur a bit, so I found sharpening helps to keep it sharp into the compression process. It also 'fakes' the look of a higher res source to begin with.

Yeah, it is a bit noisy, but then what DVX footage isn't. When I shoot I have my detail coring way up so it does add lots of noise. But I love the detail, so I figure, why not.

I'm going to search for that clemency trailer.. is it a hollywood feature or something? I found the music online somewhere as an mp3.. it was just a music only track named "trailer theme", and it was a great score, so I used to cut with. Shoot... I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's copywritten material...

Also- this week I'm getting my camera back from Reel-Stream with a fresh Andromeda modification - I can't wait to show everybody how incredible the footage from this system is. I'm very excited.
DVX forever!

I wonder why I can't view it....

This is all I get everytime.

haha yeah

If nothing works, send me your mailing address and I'll mail you a DVD - 'cause remember, the 60i krew always does sh*t the hard way.

Maybe i have a virus... I will do a scan now... I've never really had a virus, I keep things as tight as i can. But I read on symantec today about a Quicktime/iTunes thing, where someone can make a .mov file and then when the person runs it it will allow access to there quicktime app and let them have control over it. I wonder if that happened. Its some hole in the quicktime thing. But I have v7.0.2 i think. v7.0.4 is out. I should upgrade.

Cool, it looks really nice. I don't mind the noise in this one, because it reminds me of film grain, and a little film grain is always nice. :) Did you add the same amount of sharpening to all shots?
I honestly thought you were gonna say PhotoZoom Pro, but obviously AE does a pretty fine job as well.

Clemency is not a Hollywood feature, I think it's an independent movie. I think the creators of Clemency were accused of stealing that piece of music from another movie, I can't remember which one though. You better check on that.

By the way, the clip at 00:01:01 looks like it should've been deinterlaced or something.
