How do you delete clips off the P2 cards

I'm sure the answer to this will be easy, but I am definitely stumped.

I have been importing clips directly from my camera (with P2 Cards) into Final Cut Pro and it works great.

However, once I have imported the clips, what is the easiest way to delete them all off the P2 cards at once and reset the time code?

I have been hand selecting each clip and deleting it. This is tiresome and it does not reset the time code.

Thanks,

Chris

Deleting them from the camera? Or from the computer?

I don't know how you delete files from the Mac, I think you have to "force delete" them. On the PC I format 'em through the P2 Viewer program, I don't think a comparable Mac application exists. Or just format them in the camera, that's a quick and easy way.

In the camera, there is a Format function for slot 1 and Slot 2. You can't do them both at once. I wish there was something quicker like my Nikon D200 where you can hold down two buttons to format a card.

I want to delete all the clips off the P2 cards and reset the time code.

Is the only way to do this to reformat the cards? That seems kind of strange.

Still beats resetting timecode on tape...

I'm sorry. I don't know the full details on P2 workflow. :(

To me it would make sence if there was a "reset" or "fast delete" without having to re-format.

I was jesting on how hard it is to fully erase a tape and how even formatting a P2 card is a LONG way ahead!

Yes the only way in the camera to erase the clips (other than deleting them separately) is to format the cards. You can reset the Time code by using the reset timecode button the camera or remote. See page 58-60 of the manual.

Okay, so I formatted my P2 Cards and that did clear out the clips.

But I still can't seem to reset the time code. I keep hitting reset and nothing is happening. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Thanks,

Chris

The reset works if you're in TC PRESET mode. If you're not in PRESET mode it won't have any effect, IINM. Don't have the cam in front of me, so this is off the top of my head.

Barry,

Thanks. I went into setup and by putting the TC into Preset I could reset the TC to 0. Strange though, because in the manual it doesn't mention this at all. On page 58 it just says hit counter reset when the time code is displayed to reset it.

Something is fishy,

Chris
