The flashing red circle with an X

I was just out getting some test footage with a new tape when I got the flashing red circle with an X on the LCD. Never had it before, but the manual says it means a dirty cylinder head.

1. Is the "cylinder head" the same as the recording head?

2. Previous to getting this test footage, I had accidentally left a tape in the camera for over a month. Could this be why I am getting this dirty head message on the LCD?

3. If the heads are dirty, will I get this message continuously? Or will that ugly circle flash intermittently? It went away after I shut the camera off and tried again a few minutes later.

When I first got the camera, I was using Sony tapes. I have since sent my camera in to an authorized service center for an overall cleaning, and a head cleaning specifically. I have only used AY-DVM63MQ since.

Thanks guys...

Yes.

That'll do it. Over time tape (liek everything) deteriorates and little bits flake off. Leaving the tape in for a long time is unfortuanly about the worst thing you can do to your camera. :crybaby: You are going to want a pro head clean.

It'll come and go whever the camera detects dirt, but i'm gonna guess more often than not considering point #2.

I'll take "Pro Head Cleaning" for $250, Bob.

And a spanking for leaving that damned tape in there. :furious3:
