rattle sound in HVX

Ah so very cruel yet I can't help but laugh :)

Panasonic is suddenly going to see a surge in tech calls!

The tech guys over there must hate us, for arming new owners with the very latest in Panny R&D shortcomings.

I seriously think some men here didn't get the point yet....

So the only thing I can add is: the rattle-noise you hear is the pixels that so many people are missing on the chips... They somehow fell down during trasportation and can easily be fixed with either a good screwdriver, or some polyurethanfoam.

OK seriously guys, you have had your fun now. Is there actually a recall due to this issue or not. If so where can I find the info on it online?

Jan Crittenden will know whether the Titanium lens refraction stabilizer rods (Part# RTM122PG) for the optical image gyros are available yet. They have probably not shipped from the Nagoya-Prefecture factory. Also, it may not be covered under the Panasonic warranty, but you may be able to install it yourself (with metric Allen wrenches).

A lot of people say not to use the camera until you replace the rods. But I would recommend not powering up, or even moving, the camera even slightly. This could cause permanent damage to your lens. The best thing is to package it back up, as you received it, and store it in a cool, dry place without a lot of vibration (eg closet floor etc) until the rods come in. Panasonic USA had estimated that they should receive the rods by Christmas at the latest.

Good Luck!

Yes, TM, there is a recall. Go to Panasonic.com and go to their customer service section. It should be there on the left somewhere.

These guys are leading you down a road you don't need to walk. There is an active grey market for the steel (ferrous) version on ebay. Part# RTFM122PG. It'll flex a little more than the titanium, but the only problem I've ever had was with AF on macro. Hell, for 400 bucks less it's good enough for me.

We should pester Cinemek, or redrock to make a low cost alternative.

Well as fun as the last hour and a half of reading this and hair greying worrying (and I am only 24) have been, I realized there may be a section about this in the manual. Low and behold there is and I now know it is normal.

Its been fun,

Travis

I think Letus is going to pre-fab the rods. But you'll have to clean it (with ethanol and water) yourself.

oh no, you DIDN'T read the manual!! quick - take your HVX, wrap it in tin foil and put it in your closet...you have just activated the self-destruct sequence...

Guys - once he reads the manual...it's over.
:)

Congratulations Travis
