In another thread, I think Jarred mentioned that it was for advertising and posting clips of the movie on other websites prior to the closing of the Sci-Fest. :(

Too bad it got disqualified. IMHO Similo stood really above the other movies. Wasn't it possible to inform MacGregor that he was violating the rules and that he got a 'final warning', demanding him to remove the footage/clips on the other site? To give the filmmakers a chance to correct it. It sounds a bit harsch to DQ a film on this board, I can imagine when you've made such a beautiful movie, you want others to have a look at it - I can't see any real harm in the competition/festival.

Well first, beautiful or not, all films need to abide by the same rules. As far as a "final warning", why? Wasn't the initial rules that were clearly posted & discussed in depth, warning enough?

Throw that all aside, and you still have the fact that one of his partners went onto Cinemek's forum and started a thread asking everyone to go view the film and to vote for it if they liked it. When some of our own DVXuser members saw it and warned the guy that it's promoting & could cause problems, his reply was "Promoting it is. So what? He's worked hard on this film and deserves .... "

That was kicking sand in Jarred's face.

Ooops, I wasn't aware of that active promotion and denial of the warnings. Not a really smart thing to do I think. Is this the reason why the 'tone of voice' wasn't always very optimal in this long thread?

He knew the rules! They were posted '11-25-2005, 01:52 AM'. No excuses!

Some rules are made to be broken, these were not. Why let 'this one slip' it's not fair on the other great 'film-makers' who've worked so hard on following the rules and had to cut various bits out that were overlooked.

i was un aware.

what about DVXtrek?

the first rule was
Use a DVX100 or HVX200, shoot 24p and 16x9 (either squeeze or letterbox)

it was an animation... was it still allowed in the competition?

(made me laugh my ass off btw.)

Yeah, that's what I first thought when I saw the winners, but the maker of DVXTrek has declined the prize, so I take my hat off to him.

Anyway, a little mistake from the moderators to put him in the winning list, I guess he didn't even expect that.

About SIMILO, I don't know the details, but it's a pity. Such a hard work from all the people in the movie... This short film has inspired me to try and do better movies, as it did to many people here, so I'm a little disappointed...

This wasn't too surprising to me. Disappointing, but not surprising. Clips from this film have been floating around on other forums for months. even before the contest was announced. I was kinda shocked when I saw some of the same clips I'd seen way back then in his fest entry. I thought it was going to be a different piece. But I loved it so much I didn't really care. I wonder if they were already working on the film, then just decided to use it for DVXFest. IF that's the case, then they should have taken it off their website and such immediately.

Rules are rules, though. I understand completely why it had to go down this way. Just kinda leaves a bad taste. But what can ya do?

I dont think so.

Guess I'm wrong then. Coulda sworn, but it's all good, MacGregor. Not trying to to be a bad guy with ya. I'm quite disappointed you were DQ'd.

OK?

Actually, I'm very proud of the moderators for taking the contest seriously and maintaining its respectibility. If you make rules, you have to enforce them.

With those prizes, I'd hardly think they were going to 'joke' about it

just to clarify my insane ramblings real quick:

When I said before the contest was announced, I meant the original sci-fest announcement way back in November. Macgregors first similo clip didn't show up on another forum till December.

I had to check it out for my own peace of mind.

So Macgregor was correct to say that I was wrong on that point.

Sorry, Macgregor.
