Romance is my strong second choice. If it's not Super-Fest, it needs to be Love-Fest. Noir sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. I can't take anymore dry voice-over!! :)

Sounds to me like Romance is everyone's second choice. ;) Not surprising, really, considering how many of the sci-fi entries dealt with relationships. Off the top of my head, A New Tomorrow, SIMILO, Synthetic Love, Dead Inside, Ava...

I'm sure they'll close it if it irks them enough. Hopefully, no one here expects this to be binding. Nothing more than a silly way to kick around ideas and get pumped about the next big thing. If the board bosses decide to go with something completely different, I'm sure everyone will be plenty happy with the surprise. :D

Brice, he just said he'd rather see everyone tossing around ideas than a poll because he likes hearing the reasons everyone takes. I think if we keep this loose and discussion-oriented rather than just picking a horse to root for (which would be silly, as the mods'll just do whatever they want anyway) it should be fine.

So, before I said I wasn't a huge fan of action, because it implies a fairly specific set of emotions that the filmmaker is trying to play on. You know, bam, boom, stunning, adrenaline pumping, pow. I mean, you can put gunfights in a movie and it can Unforgiven or Apocalypse Now, doesn't make it an action movie. I think adding "adventure" adds a lot. It leaves more room for Hardy-Boys style capers or even Tolkeinesque fantasy. And, apparantly, the superhero idea is popular too.

Hadn't seen Barry's reply.
Of course nothing prevents anyone from tossing ideas around here as well ;)

If the mods think it should be closed, no biggie... otherwise... talk amongst yourselves... :D

Yeah, it's all good... just want to hover on the side of caution :)
That's a change.

While I love superheroics, I think after the last two fests it might be more itneresting to get away from the really fanciful stuff. On the other hand, it'd be interesting to see how some of the serious filmmakers deal with the subject. On that same hand, at least fancy makes less than stellar movies more interesting. So maybe I should withdraw my objection. ;)

I like the action genre. At first, I liked the noir idea, but I could see how that may become awfully cliche after 50+ noir entries. While what everyone has said about comedy being a more level playing field is true, and that it really does make content king, I wouldn't be interested at all in shooting a comedy, and probably wouldn't participate in a comedy-themed fest. It's my least-favorite genre to watch (theatrically), and it's certainly my least favorite genre to shoot.

It has to be Super Hero... but only as a subject. Voting counts on best application of subject to chosen genre. Super Hero Romance..."Brokeback Fortress of Solitude"... for example. I could see a lot of Super Hero Documentaries that quickly devolve into comedy. C'mon! French New Wave and spandex tights! It's MAGIC!!

Mocumentary would be sweet. I think after the last two fests horror/thriller should be avoided because it's to much in the same vein as Sci-fi and Zombie.
